Women's indoor track & field finishes second at OAC indoor split meet

The Ohio Northern women's track & field team finished second of five teams at the OAC Indoor Split Meet on Friday evening at Mount Union.

No. 10 Mount Union won the event with 264.5 points, Northern was second with 138 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace, John Carroll and Heidelberg.

The tandem of seniors Alison Steinbrunner and Lydia Weaver and sophomores Catie Huber and Shayla Siefker notched a first place finish in the DMR in 12:22.27.

In the 1,000 run, the Polar Bears had the top four finishers.

What next for Ada's Zac Dysert?

Wasn't it just a few football seasons ago that Zac Dysert was tossing the ball in a purple Ada HS bulldog uniform on War Memorial Field?

On Jan. 26, the Ada standout quarterbacked the North squad at the North-South Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

Although the North team lost, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com took note of Dysert's pocket presence, saying tht he works better in chaos rather than on simple drop back plays.

Nate Bascom participating in preseason training with Columbus Crew of MLS

Former Ohio Northern men's soccer standout Nate Bascom is taking part in preseason training with Major League Soccer's (MLS) Columbus Crew in Bradenton, Florida.

The entire Crew roster is down at the camp, as well as some other invitees.

Bascom was invited as a trialist to the camp and is in competition for a spot on the team.

"The players down here are very skilled and talented," Bascom said. "It is a thrill to go against the top competition in the United States."

Bascom is one of the most decorated players in Ohio Northern men's soccer history.

Katie Mengos breaks ONU's all-time career steals mark as No. 8 women's basketball wins at BW 66-55

Senior Katie Mengos set the school's all-time career steals record and No. 8-ranked Ohio Northern rallied for a 66-55 Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball victory at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night at Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Polar Bears run their win streak to 15 games and improve to 16-1 overall and remain undefeated in OAC action with an 11-0 mark. The Yellow Jackets fall to 10-7, 5-5.

Mengos had a game-high four steals on the night, giving her 183 for her career and breaking the previous record of 181 set from 2006-09 by Emily Culbertson.

She also had six points and dished out three assists.

Men's basketball uses hot start, stingy defense to defeat Baldwin Wallace 63-47

Ohio Northern used a 20-4 first half run to take control, then played solid defense in the second half to post a 63-47 men's basketball victory over Baldwin Wallace Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 8-10 on the season and are 4-7 in Ohio Athletic Conference action, while the Yellow Jackets see their 10-game winning streak come to an end and are now 13-5, 8-3.

Women's basketball remains at no. 8 in D3hoops.com poll; moves up to no. 9 in USA Today sports poll

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team remained ranked No. 8 in the eighth weekly D3hoops.com poll and moved up one spot to No. 9 in the USA Today Sports Division III Coaches poll.

The Polar Bears received 441 votes in the D3hoops.com poll, which was two more than they received in last weeks poll.

DePauw (Ind.) stayed at the top of the poll with 623 points and 23 of the 25 first place votes, Calvin (Mich) is ranked second with 598 points and the two remaining first place votes and Hope (Mich.) is third with 538 points.
