The American Red Cross North Central Ohio Chapter responded to a fire on North Front Street in Alger early Wednesday morning, Jan. 29.
The Red Cross provided assistance for the immediate needs of two adults and four children living in the home, such as temporary lodging, food and clothing.
Volunteer responders also provided the family with comfort kits of personal hygiene items, blankets and stuffed animals for the children.
“We’re deeply saddened for those who were impacted by this fire,” said Todd James, Executive Director, North Central Ohio Chapter.

McGUFFEY - Visiting Ada dominated the offensive glass to soundly defeat local arch-rival Upper Scioto Valley 49-36 in non-conference girls basketball action Tuesday night.
Ada out-rebounded USV 57-39 as the purple and gold made up for errant shooting by grabbing an impressive 35 offensive boards.
The Bulldog girls improved to 6-12 overall with the decisive win. Meanwhile, the Lady Rams fell to 0-15 with the loss.
Longtime McMillan, Michigan, resident, Judith Ann Reese, 80, died Monday morning Jan. 27, 2020, at her residence.
Born June 14, 1939 in Liberty Township, Hardin County, Ohio, daughter of the late Walter and Thelma (McElroy) Anspach.
Judith was a 1957 graduate of Ada High School and a 1961 graduate of the Springfield City Hospital School of Nursing. Judith was employed as a registered nurse at the Ohio State University Hospital, Springfield City Hospital, Lima Memorial Hospital, filled in as a school nurse at Ada and as a private scrub nurse for neurosurgeons in Lima.
Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center announces the 2020 Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Scholarship Program is now accepting applications.
The program for high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2020, allocates $1,500 scholarships to students from our community and region who are interested in pursuing careers as medical professionals.
Students in Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, Hancock, Logan, Mercer, Paulding, Putnam, Shelby and Van Wert counties may apply. Applications can be found at more than 70 high schools and career centers around the 10 county districts.
The United Soccer Coaches Association held its end-of-season luncheon in Baltimore, Maryland. Junior Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) and senior Haley Moses (Mason) were both honored.
Fuller was a first-team All-American selection after her spectacular 2019 campaign. She netted a team-high 20 goals, which was the most goals in a single season by a Polar Bear since 1997.
Fuller's 20 scores are tied for the most by any junior at ONU. She has 48 goals in her career, which ranks fourth all-time in school history, while she has also accumulated 113 points, which ranks sixth in program history.
