It's almost April; that means prom is on the horizon

And, for parents who need to know, here are some details

Hey, guys, have you rented your tux yet? Ada High School prom is closer than you think.

This year’s prom is Saturday, April 27. The following prom details are from the Ada school website:

PROM GUEST REQUEST FORMS: are available in the high school office. Students planning to bring a date who does not attend Ada High School need to complete the form and returned to the high school office by Friday, April 26, at 3:30 p.m.

Cheerleader tryouts set for April

Give me an “A”!

It is cheerleading tryout time for next year's Ada Junior High and High School football and basketball seasons.

Open to current 6th graders to high school juniors, a practice clinic is from 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 31. Tryouts follows at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 7, according to Bridgette Jones and Tracy Breidenbach, high school coaches.

The tryouts include scoring in a group cheer, jumps and tumbling, group chant, dance and a teacher evaluation.

A written test on knowledge of basketball and football will be taken by all who tryout. Ada cheerleaders will participate in the UCA Cheerleading Camp held at Ohio Northern University July 26-29.

Sousa comes to Ada - Oct. 24, 1892

This combination city hall and theater stood on East Buckeye Avenue, the site of the current municipal building, between 1881 and 1930s

Sousa Comes to Ada - October 24, 1892

In Fall of 1892, a happy set of events brought John Philip Sousa and his Great Marine Corps. Band to Ada.

The first of these was the completion of the Ada Opera House 11 years earlier. This combination city hall and theater stood on East Buckeye Avenue, the site of the current municipal building, between 1881 and  1930s.

The day paws came to school

It was different kind of field trip. On Monday, ONU 4 Paws for Ability dogs took a field trip the the Ada preschool. Founded in 2014, Polar Paws is an ONU organizataion involving ONU students training service dogs. Several additional photos follow. (From Ada Bulldogs Facebook)

Kikuko Hollan was born in Yokohama, Japan

Kikuko T. Hollan, 87, died on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 3:47 p.m. at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton, Ohio.

She was born on Feb. 25, 1932 in Yokohama, Japan  to Tomo and Kichi Takahashi who preceded her in death. On Dec. 28, 1956, she married Abe Hollan on in Yokohama, Japan. He died March 23, 2005.

Kikuko worked for 15 years as a seamstress for Elder Beerman in Lima.  She also worked at the the U.S. Army Yokohama Ordnance Depot #229. She met her loving husband of over 60 years, Abe Hollan, in Japan, having her first date with him with an interpreter present. 

Sheriff's Office investigating fatal Kenton accident

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal injury crash that occurred in Kenton just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.

A car driven by Kikuko T. Hollan, 87, of Kenton, was traveling east on East Espy Street when it crossed over South Wayne Street into the driveway of a residence at 501 S. Wayne St. There the vehicle crashed into a tree.

Ms. Hollan was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by BKP Ambulance, where she later succumbed from her injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the BKP Ambulance, Kenton Fire Department and Minich’s Towing.
