Women’s lacrosse wins 18-2

NEW CONCORD — Freshman Sydney Skelding (Dublin, Calif.) tied her career-high with six goals to lead the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to an 18-2 victory at Muskingum on a chilly Saturday afternoon at McConagha Stadium.

Men’s lacrosse wins in shutout

The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team posted the first shutout in program history with a 17-0 victory over Muskingum on a sunny but chilly Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears also extended its winning streak to seven games and is now 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Muskies fall to 3-7, 0-4.

Northern out-shot Muskingum 70-4, won the ground ball battle 54-27 and won 17-of-19 faceoffs.

Ada’s Wills leads ONU tennis to victory

Sophomores Mackenzie Wills (Ada) and Katie Curry (Oxford/Talawanda) led the Ohio Northern women's tennis team as it defeated Mount Union 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Lima Westwood Tennis Center.

The Polar Bears improve to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Purple Raiders fall to 9-5, 2-2.

The duo of Wills and Curry got Northern off to a solid start, posting a quick 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Elroy James Baier, 1927 - 2018

Elroy James Baier, age 90, died on Friday, April 06, 2018 at 1:05 a.m. at Springview Manor, Lima.                     

            He was born on December 13, 1927, the son of Edward and Florence (Hiller) Baier who preceded him in death.  On June 6, 1954, he married Ruthella (Romick) Baier who preceded him in death on September 21, 2016.  

Elroy is survived by his two daughters: Janet Baier of Lima and Joyce (Richard) Diller of Elida; two grandsons: Gregory (Taylor) Diller of Ada and David Diller of Elida; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two brothers: Walter and Paul, and one sister Dorothy Simon.

Testing is the major focus in April at Ada elementary. Information about the testing is part of the April elementary school newsletter. Here is information parents and caregivers need to know about the tests.

All tests are scheduled for morning administration in the following schedule:

• Monday, April 16 - English Language Arts part 1, grades 3-6
• Wednesday, April 18 - English Language Arts part 2, grades 3-6
• Monday, April 23 - Mathematics part 1, grades 3-6
• Wednesday, April 25 - Mathematics part 2, grades 3-6
• Tuesday, May 1 - Science, grade 5

ONU's historic talk

April 17 dedication of MLK statue between Taft and Law building

Ohio Northern University will hold a dedication for a statue that depicts Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s talk on campus 50 years ago at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in the area between Taft Hall and the ONU College of Law building.

The event is free and open to the public.

King spoke in Taft Gymnasium on Jan. 11, 1968. It was one of the last speeches he gave at a college or university. According to ONU archivist Paul Logsdon, King spoke at Kansas State University on Jan. 19, 1968, and at Manchester (Ind.) College on Feb. 1. He was assassinated in Memphis, Tenn., on April 4.
