Ada village council finally laid to rest the discussion about the use of sidewalks on a regular basis by store owners displaying merchandise and signs.

At Tuesday's meeting, council members voted unanimously not to restrict business owners.

However, a proposal may be made in the future to restrict businesses, which may want to sell alcoholic beverages to patrons seated in a roped off area of the sidewalk.

That issue will be discussed by the street committee at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, in the council chambers of the city building. Specifically, The Cask has inquired about doing so.

That possibility brought a litany of restrictions for all businesses, but those regulations were finally turned down by council on Tuesday. This has been discussed several times at street committee and council meetings over the past few months.

Several merchants and other citizens of the village spoke to the subject at this week's meeting. Mayor Dave Retterer said he was glad for the citizen input about the proposed restrictions. For now, the issue is settled.

In other business, two members of the Hardin County Humane Society spoke of the group's efforts to help animals and reported on various upcoming fundraising events.
