Bicycle peddling Rotarians spent an overnight in Ada on Sunday after a 70-mile trek that day through part of northwest Ohio. Their goal: to raise $50,000.

Part of the group, pictured here, spent the night at Dick and Peggy Lawrence's home on West North Avenue. They included (from left) Bill and Kim Pepple of Bryan, Tim Broud of Toledo, and the Lawrences.

After the day-long ride on Sunday, the bicyclists were treated to a cookout at Gary Hull's home, then bedded down at the homes of various Rotarians.

On Monday, it was off to New Bremen for the group.

The ride Saturday was especially challenging with temps in the mid-90s and wind.

During the June 11-16 ride, the group plans to visit 20 of the 62 clubs in the northwest Ohio Rotary district.

The bike tour, now in its 12th year, has raised significant money for medical equipment and supplies, sent throughout the world.

Pepple is executive director of Williams County United Way. His wife Kim taught elementary school in Bryan for 35 years. Broud is a crisis care counselor of youth in Toledo.

No guest leaves the Lawrence home without homemade food. In this case it was cookies for the cyclists. In return, the Lawrences were given a supply of candy. Spangler Candy is made in Bryan.
