Lady Ram duo out-guns Ada
McGUFFEY - Upper Scioto Valley senior standouts Emily Patton and Shelby Spradlin combined for 51 points to lead the hosts past Hardin County rival Ada 80-46 in their annual girls basketball showdown Tuesday night.
Patton poured in 26 points on the strength of six three-point goals, while Spradlin netted 25 markers.
The Lady Bulldogs fell to 7-10 after the defeat. Meanwhile, the Lady Rams improved to 13-3 with their sixth consecutive win at Alumni Fieldhouse.
Spradlin tallied 10 points on five field goals in the first period to pace USV to a 23-9 lead. The versatile Patton added nine points on three treys as the hosts rallied from a 7-6 deficit with a 12-0 run, and never were headed after that.
Back-to-back triples by Patton and a Spradlin lane shot capped the spurt to provide an 18-7 margin. Ada junior Maddie Gossard stopped the run with a basket, but Patton nailed another trifecta and Spradlin sank a banker to end the period with a 14-point cushion.
Eight Bulldog turnovers contributed to their opening stanza deficit.
Ada junior Anney Archer sank her third field goal to open the second quarter. Patton posted up to score in response. Archer answered by drilling a 14-footer. Spradlin split a pair at the foul line while Archer splashed a pair from the stripe to inch the Bulldogs within 26-15.
Patton then drained a trey, followed by a steal and layin by Alyssa Miller. Bulldog senior Haley Wyss buried a three off an Archer assist, but Spradlin answered with a three of her own for a 34-18 bulge.
Wyss split two free throws and Patton splashed her fifth trey of the half to give her 17 points. Bulldog Teara Coulson canned a free toss to make it 37-20 at intermission.
Spradlin opened the second half with a field goal, and Gossard drilled a triple to cut the Ram lead to 39-23. Miller scored inside from Patton and Wyss canned two foul shots.
Miller scored again inside off a Spradlin feed but Wyss netted a putback basket. Patton sank a bank shot and Spradlin converted three of four free throws to extend the lead to 21.
