Polar Bear Hoop Talk: Our trip to Cincinnati and more
By Grant Pepper
On this week’s episode of the Polar Bear Hoop Talk podcast, hosted by myself and fellow senior ONU men’s basketball player Brandon Hawkins, we talked about our time at the Mount St. Joseph’s Tip-Off Classic over Thanksgiving Break, as well as our loss to Alma and win over Capital last week.
We went 1-1 at Mount St. Joseph’s (located just outside of Cincinnati), losing to ninth-ranked Washington University-St. Louis on the first night and beating Case Western Reserve University on the second night. In this podcast, we broke down each game and also ranked our favorite team meals from the weekend-long trip.
After that, we lost our first home game of the season to Alma last Wednesday, 81-79. However, we then proceeded to win our first OAC game on Saturday, a road contest at Capital. Our record is currently 4-2 (2-0 in the OAC) after beating Wilmington on Wednesday night, and we will host Mount Union next on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Brandon and I also interviewed our teammate and starting shooting guard Austin Allemeier in this week’s podcast. Allemeier is a sophomore business major from Elida, OH, and is given the assignment of guarding our opponent’s best player every night. He shared some interesting stories about playing alongside future Purdue standout Dakota Mathias at Elida High School, and talked about his mindset as an elite defender.
