Ever hear of an escape room?

There are several escape rooms in the bigger cities in Ohio and one in Findlay. Soon, there will be one nearby. In order to keep Ada Icon readers in the know on the latest trends, we did some digging to find out what an escape room is all about.

Ray Hadley, who is pastoring a church called Ada Family Center, explained that escape rooms are a live adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints, and strategy to solve the mystery of each room.

Teams, usually of 2-8 people, are given a certain amount of time to find hidden objects, unlock locks or doors, and solve problems to get out of the room before time expires. Most commercial escape rooms charge $20-30 per person.

Two escape rooms have been set up at Union Chapel Missionary Church, one room is more difficult than the other. Tickets are $15 per person or $10 per person for groups of 4 or more. And, dinner is included.

Ada Family Center and Union Chapel are cosponsoring the project.

The event is geared for adults, but junior and senior high school youth are welcome, as well.

The escape room event will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, at Union Chapel, 4869 Ada Rd., Lima (north side of SR 81 past Lafayette). The room will be open at 6, 7, 8, and 9 p.m. It will take about 30 minutes to play. Dinner will be served 6:30-8:30 p.m. so that players can eat before or after playing.

Ada Family Center’s weekly Sunday worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. in McIntosh Center. Union Chapel has been assisting with the establishment of Ada Family Center.
