Men’s track does well against bigger schools
The No. 8-ranked Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team had outstanding performances at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva and the Findlay Open in Findlay on Saturday.
The Polar Bears had athletes at the Findlay Open, hosted by NCAA Division II foe Findlay, and the SPIRE Midwest Open, a meet in Geneva consisting primarily of NCAA Division II and III schools.
Senior All-American Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./De LaSalle) won the the 800-meter run at the SPIRE Midwest Open.
Molinaro finished first out of 83 runners in the event in 4:14.16.
Junior Ian McVey (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) finished seventh in the 3,000-meter run in 8:31.32.
At Findlay, sophomores Noah McKee (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and Jared Butcher (Mechanicsburg) each had fourth place finishes to lead the Polar Bears.
McKee was fourth in the triple jump at 12.39 meters.
Butcher led a 4-6-7 finish for the Polar Bears in the 400-meter dash in :51.72. Senior Brandon Emert (Brunswick) was sixth in :51.85 and freshman Jared Fox(Fremont/Ross) was seventh in :52.03.
Senior Alec Lunney (Middleburg Heights/Berea-Midpark) was seventh in the 800 in 2:02.39 and sophomore Andrew Shelton (Williamsville, N.Y./South) was seventh in the 3,000 in 9:31.77.
Senior Conner Karg (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) was eighth in the 200 in :23.27 and freshman Sam Krabacher (Hamilton/Badin) was eighth in the 1,000 in 2:36.76.
The Polar Bears will return home to host the annual Joe Banks Invitational on Feb. 3 at the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.
