Leaders of the newly-formed Ada Historical Society deemed the membership drive a success following a reception in the Railroad Depot and dinner at Viva Maria’s on Monday evening.

Those visiting the Depot saw a large collection of postcards gathered over the years by Lee Crouse (who happens to be one of the Ada Icon weekly columnists, as well). Lee’s postcards were displayed in large frames set on tripods.

Another feature seen by the visitors was Paul Logsdon’s power point presentation of more than 50 photographs. The continually running “slide show” featured photos in various categories, such as churches, businesses, disasters.

A collection of books and articles about Ada history was displayed, as well. They included Betty Miller’s five “Small Town Sampler” books, ONU and Ada centennial celebration booklets, as well as several not-usually-seen books.

The Society gained 24 individual and family memberships on Monday evening. Fifteen people dined at Viva Maria’s afterwards to conclude the first-ever membership drive.

Those who signed up Monday evening will be considered charter members. Those who live nearby or a distance away may still join and be considered charter members, if they respond within a week by sending $10 for an individual membership or $15 for a family membership to Ada Historical Society, in care of Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main St., Ada, OH 45810.

Several townspeople have been meeting monthly since last fall to organize the Society. The organization has a full set of officers and will plan several activities during the next year.
