BOWLING GREEN - Three members of the Ada tennis team competed at the Div. II district tournament Thursday in Bowling Green.
The top four placers at district qualify for the Div. II state meet in Mason next weekend. Play was single elimination in the first two rounds.
Ada's Isaac Spar entered the 16-player field as one of the top four seeds after winning the Lima sectional at UNOH.
Spar played junior Stephane Granato of Maumee Valley in the first round Thursday at BGSU. Spar won the first set 6-0, but then Granato rallied to take the last two sets 6-3, 6-2.
In the quarterfinals, senior Noah Brown of Clearfork eliminated Granato in straight sets to make it to the semifinals.
As a fourth seed, Bulldog senior Cade Mullins met a one seed in Matthew McGee of Ottawa Hills in the first round and was defeated 6-0, 6-0.
McGee had beaten Mullins in a dual match at Ada earlier this season. McGee went on to win his quarterfinal bout 6-0, 6-0 to make it to the semis.
Third-seeded Ada sophomore Miranda Wills lost to second seed Jay Fortner in her first round match. The freshman from Bryan had won the Northern Buckeye Tennis League first singles championship over Mullins in early May.
Fortner defeated Wills 6-3, 6-0. He then advanced to the semis by beating Tommy Secrist of Lexington.
District semifinals and finals will be completed Saturday at BGSU.
Ada (14-4) is slated to host Ottawa Hills in the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association tournament regional semifinals Friday at 4 p.m. at Ohio Northern.
A perennial state power, OH defeated Ada 5-0 earlier this season at ONU.
