ONU swimming teams launch season at Kenyon
The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team opened its 2019-20 season with a fifth place finish at the Kenyon Relays on Saturday afternoon at the Steen Aquatic Center.
The Polar Bears finished with 36 points and were led by the 200-yard breast relay team of senior Katey Stuart(Ada), sophomore Lauren Shaw (Port Clinton), senior Libby Sartschev (Parma/Normandy) and junior Marisa Barton (Saint Charles, Mo./Duchesne). They finished fifth in 2:18.22.
Two other ONU teams posted top-10 finishes.
The 3x500-yard free relay team of junior Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell), freshman Teagan Rasdall (Wooster) and Barton were ninth in 18:12.26.
In the 400 I.M. relay, freshman Abby Schauer (Beavercreek), sophomore Megan Lubinski (Milford/Brighton), Stuart and Taylor were ninth in 4:25.61.
The mixed 200 medley relay team of sophomore Justin DeLano (Englewood/Northmont), Schauer, sophomore Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) and Lubinski were third in 1:46.43.
Men's results
The men's swimming and diving team placed third as a team with 60 points, while host Kenyon won the meet, scoring 104 points.
The 200-yard backstroke relay — of Jackson Stanley, Chris Walton, Connor Rettammel and Justin DeLano — led the way, taking fourth with a time of 1:42.57. The 200-yard breaststroke relay — of Dillon Brady, Ian Kogucki, Dagan Sorensen and Pat Reed — also placed four th, clocking in at 1:52.01.
The 3x500-yard freestyle relay — of Rettammel, Walton and Calob Cope — touched sixth with a time of 15:37.27, and the 500-yard crescendo relay — of Zach Ayres, Noah Curry, Logan Randall and Cope — placed seventh, logging a time of 4:20.74.
The 200-yard butterfly relay — comprised of Ayres, DeLano, Jack Kessler and Stanley — finished eighth after registering a time of 1:36.80, while the 200-yard medley relay — consisting of DeLano, Kogucki, Stanley and Curry — rounded out ONU's top-10 finsihes, touching 10th with a time of 1:38.55.
The mixed 200-yard medley relay — made up of DeLano, Abby Schauer, Stanley and Megan Lubinski — finished third in a time of 1:46.43.
Northern travels to Wilmington for a dual meet Friday at 6 p.m.
