ONU art and design seniors to exhibit capstone projects
The Ohio Northern University Elzay Gallery of Art presents the art of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts seniors from Monday, April 22, to Sunday, May 5. The students’ portfolios also will be on display during the closing reception of the senior BA/BFA exhibition, Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m.
“This experience serves as the crowning point of the students’ education,” said Brit Rowe, associate professor and chair of the Department of Art and Design. “Students know how to build a body of work. They know how to think about its connection to the broader world. They know how to integrate principles, theories and methods learned in courses in an applied context.”
The capstone project is designed to encourage students to define the complex intersection between personal voice, conceptual understanding, the ability to conduct and use research, and to effectively use their liberal arts education in a process of creating a compelling, professional presentation.
“The gallery presentation is essentially the students’ portfolios,” Rowe said. “The body of work must demonstrate what the students have learned and must go beyond classroom exercises and assignments to incorporate complex problems, ideas and solutions.”
The BA/BFA candidates featured in the exhibition are Karl J. Beard, graphic design major from Cincinnati, Ohio; Kevin W. Drain, graphic design major from Urbana, Ohio; Josephine M. Dunham, studio arts major from Lima, Ohio; Kristen N. Ellis, graphic design major from Westerville, Ohio; Wesley J. Goldsmith, graphic design major from Kenton, Ohio; Kelsey Z. Kleine, studio arts major from Bowling Green, Ohio; Nicole E. Leirer, studio arts major from Toledo, Ohio; Olivia R. Lindsey, graphic design major from Powell, Ohio; Matthew P. Madsen, graphic design major from Coshocton, Ohio; Victoria L. Moga, advertising design major from Stow, Ohio; and Kavan E. Reames, advertising design major from Zanesfield, Ohio.
Admission to the Elzay Gallery of Art is free and open to the public daily from noon to 5 p.m. For additional information, to schedule a tour or to be placed on the arts exhibition mailing list, please contact the Department of Art and Design 419-772-2160 or [email protected]
