AHS wrestlers 3-2 at Crestview Duals
By Cort Reynolds
CONVOY – The Ada High School boys wrestling team won three of five matches at the Crestview Duals tournament this past Saturday, January 14.
Bulldog freshman Silas Riblet fashioned a perfect 5-0 record at the tournament in the 106 lbs. bracket.
Ada’s Cooper Dappert, Colton Cole and Liam Vieira all went 4-1 in their divisions.
Ada was 0-2 in the pool play matches, but rebounded to go 3-0 in the consolation bracket pool.
The Bulldogs beat Defiance, Lincolnview and Paulding, and lost to Crestview and Elida.
"We got off to a slow start; we lost focus in a couple situations and left some team points out there against Crestview to start the day or we really could have won that dual,” said Ada head coach Eric Perkins.
“They ended up second, we ended up in the consolation pool. That’s how close the competition was,” he continued.
"When you have a rough start, it can sometimes end up running your whole day,” Perkins noted. “Our guys did a really good job of re-setting during the break between rounds two and three, and making the most of the rest of the day."
Ada team meet scores at Crestview Duals:
Crestview 42, Ada 34
Elida 51, Ada 18
Ada 36, Defiance 24
Ada 41, Lincolnview 30
Ada 42, Paulding 24
Ada individual records at Crestview Duals:
Silas Riblet 5-0
Cooper Dappert 4-1
Colton Cole 4-1
Liam Vieira 4-1
Clayton McClain 3-2
Landon Simon 3-2
Owen Arnett 2-3
Logan Jolliff 2-3
Ken Zheng 2-0
Brady Sloan 1-0
Mohamad Khalil 0-3
Trevor McGue 0-3
“Colton Cole wrestled his best tournament of the season,” said Perkins. “He was the most aggressive he has been all year, and really approached his matches well.
"Silas and Cooper didn't get a ton of opportunities to wrestle as there were not a lot of guys in the 106 or 113 weight classes on the teams we competed with, but they made the most of the opportunities they had," he added.
The Ada boys are in action next at the Marion Pleasant Invitational January 27-28. The Bulldog girls wrestle at the 31-team Ridgedale Invitational January 21 in Morral.
