By Tori Pedersen
The October 17 Ada School board meeting included announcements regarding 2024-2025 alumni honors programs as well as the approval of substitute teachers and volunteer drivers. (See attached agenda and packet)
Prior to the 6:00 p.m. meeting, members did a facility walk through with Andrew Huelsman and Clinton Hirschfeld of the Garmann Miller architecture and engineering firm. In a later presentation, the representatives discussed a proposed facility assessment and master plan for Ada Schools buildings.
High School Principal Dan Lee and Elementary Principal Angela Maag presented current academic performance in the schools approaching the end of the first quarter. Lee thanked Honda for hosting an eighth grade field trip. Maag reported that early elementary, K-2, scored 4 out of 5 stars on Early Literature on the State Report Card.
Britton Devier, K-12 Assistant Principal, provided information on the January 11 Hall of Honor Reception. Walt Bettinger has been selected for the 2025 induction into the Ada High School Alumni Hall of Honor as a 1979 Ada graduate. Devier also talked about the new “Wall of Honor” that will honor military alumni. In collaboration with the Ada VFW, Ada High School will create a permanent display honoring all Bulldogs who have served in the U.S. military.
The board approved recommended action items from Superintendent Julie Simmons. These included accepting rosters of substitute teachers, nurses, educational aides, cafeteria workers, drivers, custodians and secretaries. The board approved 11 volunteer drivers.
Two out of state trips for students were approved: a trip for the Ada Swim Team to Jay County, Indiana in January and a Varsity Singers trip to Batesville, Indiana, also in January.
State Representative Jon Cross commended new Ada Exempted Village Schools Superintendent Julie Simmons for her thirty-three years of work in the educational field.
The next Ada Schools board meeting is November 21.
