Bulldog baseball felled by Arcadia

ADA – The Ada High School baseball team battled but lost 5-2 to visiting Blanchard Valley Conference rival Arcadia Wednesday evening, April 30.

The Redskins jumped ahead with four runs in the top of the second inning. The visitors added a run in the sixth to stretch the advantage to 5-0.

The Bulldogs plated two runs in the home sixth to stay within striking distance. With Ada runners on first and second and two out, Arcadia hurler Isaac Stoner got out of the jam with a called third strike.

Stoner then retired Ada in order in the bottom of the seventh on a fly ball, an unassisted grounder to first base, and a strikeout.

“We played very well,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “Our kids hit the ball hard all day. We just hit it right at them. We are pleased with the effort.”

Ada dropped to 3-13 overall and 2-7 in the BVC with the defeat. Arcadia improved to 5-10 and 3-6 in BVC play after the win.

The Redskins and Ada each collected four hits, but Arcadia drew seven walks and had three batters get hit by a pitch. The Bulldogs made three errors, compared to two by the Redskins.

Ada left five runners on base, while Arcadia stranded nine.

Ada senior shortstop Levi Green singled and scored in the fifth.

Bulldog sophomore catcher Andrew Allen also singled and scored the other Bulldog run that inning on a Brody Rister hit.

Freshman Thad Smith hit a single for the fourth Ada hit.

Wes Mowery started and pitched the first three innings. He gave up three hits and four earned runs with four walks. He also hit three batters.

Bulldog sophomore Blake Zoladz relieved and hurled four innings of one-hit shutdown baseball. He allowed one earned run and three walks while striking out four.

Redskin hurler Stoner pitched a complete-game four-hitter to earn the win. He allowed no earned runs, walking two with three strikeouts over seven innings. Stoner aided his own cause with an RBI single.

Arcadia’s Nolan Martinez drove in two runs, while Owen Rader slapped an RBI single. Colin Nusser stole two bases and scored a run.

Ada is scheduled to play at Perry (10-3) in a non-league game Friday.
