On Tuesday, June 2, the Village of Ada Council met for a regular session with Council President Jason Campbell presiding. Mayor David Retterer was absent and legal counsel Jane Napier attended remotely. No legislative action was taken during the meeting. The council packet is here.
NEW VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR
Council went into executive session followed by two actions. The first was union negotiations with the Ada Police Department. A full contract will be voted on at the next council meeting, following union ratification.
Council approved hiring Casey Smith as the village’s new village administrator. Her first day will be June 15.
NEW APD OFFICERS
The Ada Police Department welcomed two new police officers during a swearing-in ceremony attended by family and friends. The new members of the department are Madeline Kelly of Bath and Caitlyn Martin of Lima. Both are recent graduates of the Apollo Career Center’s police academy. Jason Campbell administered the swearing-in of the officers.
NEW BUSINESS
Council reviewed the Ada Chamber of Commerce’s request for sponsorship for the Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival on Saturday, August 22, 2026. In previous years, council made an in-kind donation to the festivities. After some discussion, council agreed to table the vote for another meeting while Village Administrator Amanda Sears follows up with Lindsay Hollar of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce for more information.
UTILITIES
Committee chair Xander Wells gave the floor to Sears, who reviewed events of last Thursday evening leading into Friday morning, when a vehicle destroyed a hydrant, causing a water main break on Main Street across from the Super Wash. Village crews repaired the hydrant.
VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR
Amanda Sears gave her final report as Village Administrator. Sears said she received an email from resident Kevin Wagner with concerns about a few Facebook videos posted by the village with music in them.
She said the videos were initially taken down to review copyright laws. Solicitor Jane Napier responded that the village was not in violation of any copyright laws for the videos posted on social media.
Sears announced that hydrant flushing will begin next week as part of the annual water maintenance program.
The village website states that Public Works employees will be flushing fire hydrants from June 8 to July 8 between the hours of 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., starting with northwest Ada first (Zone A), then northeast (Zone B), then the southeast. (Zone C) and finish up with the southwest (Zone D).
Sears also announced that the village has an accepted applicant for the position of part-time administrative assistant. Calthy LaRue of Ada is expected to start her position on June 22.
