Night Jazz first concert on First Presbyterian, Findlay, artists series
The Arts Partnership of Greater Hancock County and First Presbyterian Church of Findlay will join forces for an afternoon of great music featuring Night Jazz.
The concert will be held on Sunday, Sept 29, at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church Great Room, located at 2330 S. Main St. in Findlay.
The performance is part of The Arts Partnership’s Matinee Melodies Series and marks the beginning of the 34th Season of the First Presbyterian Church Artist Series. The concert is free and open to the public; a free-will offering to benefit the Church’s Artist Series will be received.
Night Jazz, organized by Gary Lannes, incorporates big band sounds featuring music made famous by artists such as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Frank Sinatra.
The current members are; trumpets: Tom Swaisgood, Paul Baransy, Curt Dahms, Chuck Haley; saxes: Merv Schrock, Dick Reamsnyder, Brian Sickenger, Mike Springer, Colleen Abrams, and Alex Goeberman; trombones: Alisa Diller, Traci Hiller, David Vaas and Ted Green; piano: Bev Roby and Kelly Lewis; bass: Dan Conley; guitar: Gary Sammet; drums: Gary Lannes, Scott Green and Phoebe Diller; vocals: Jim Scothorn, and The Nightingales (Liz Hill, Judy Lowell and Janie Emrick).
The band performs at various community events such as The University of Findlay Jazz Festival, the Findlay Summer Concert Series, The Heritage, Birchaven Village, local dinner parties, wedding receptions, anniversaries and dances.
The Arts Partnership’s Matinee Melodies Series, created to offer affordable quality entertainment to the community during the daytime hours, is made possible through support from Fifth Third Bank, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, The Findlay Hancock County Community Foundation, Primrose Retirement Communities, and First Presbyterian Church.
The 2013-2014 Series also includes Spencers: Theatre of Illusion at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27; Rockapella at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15; and Snow White and the Magic Mirror, A Grimm Tale at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2014, all at Findlay High School’s R L. Heminger Auditorium.
The First Presbyterian Church 2013-2014 Artist Series also features composer/arranger Mark Hayes for a weekend of events on November 15-17, including a solo piano concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 15; a keyboard improvisation workshop and choral reading session on Saturday morning, November 16; and two massed choir concerts under direction of Mr. Hayes and Dr. Micheal Anders on Sunday, November 17.
All activities are scheduled to take place at Winebrenner Auditorium. In addition, the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir, under the direction of Dr. Matthew Armstrong, will present John Rutter’s Feel the Spirit, featuring Crystal Sellers Battle, vocalist, on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
