15 minutes with four Ada High School juniors

The Icon recently had a brief chat with four Ada juniors, Alissa Schlachter, Sydney Hartford, Shelbey Van Atta and Cheyenne Wells.  Here are some of the high points of our conversation.

What do you remember about first grade?
Alissa: I sat behind Shelbey.
Sydney: Shelbey and I have been friends since kindergarten.
Cheyenne: Miss Daniels was our teacher.

Name the most recent movie you’ve watched and rate it 1 to 4, with 4 being great:
Alissa: Gone Girl. I’d give it a 5.
Sydney: Maze Runner, a 4.
Shelbey: Annabelle. Definitely a 4.
Cheyenne: Dracula, a 4.

What book are you reading at the moment?
Alissa:
Paper Town.
Sydney: The Fault in our Stars.
Shelbey: Lolita.
Cheyenne: The Beautiful and the Damned.

Give me your best-ever  tee-pee story.
Sydney: In seventh or eighth grade I think we went to Katey Stuart’s (who just happened to be sitting at the table during this interview). We also forked them. There were probably 200 forks in their yard.
Cheyenne: We egged Mr. Allen’s.

Can I print that?
Cheyenne: Go ahead.

How many eggs?
Cheyenne: Ten dozen. I liked him – had nothing against him.

Shelbey: I’ve never tee-peed anyone. If I did, I can’t remember doing it. My little sister and her friends did it.

Sydney: I was always the target of tee-peeing.

I forgot to ask what classes each of you are taking.
Alissa:
Trig, Anatomy, Digital Graphics, Government, English CP, study hall and Ceramics II.
Sydney: English CP, study hall, French III, Algebra II, Choir, Digital Graphics, Government and Anatomy.
Shelbey: English CP, study hall, Ceramics, Anatomy, Tri and Pre-calucus, Government, study hall.
Cheyenne: English CP, study hall, French III, Anatomy, Government, study hall, Geometry and Choir.

Reveal your worst-ever grade on a test or grade card.
Alissa:
A low C in Geometry.
Sydney: I started the year with an F in Geometry. Then I carried a D the entire year, but managed to end with a C.
Shelbey: I had a 94 in Ceramics this year
Cheyenne: I think it was a 92 on a French test.

How far along are you with your student driving?
Alissa:
I just got my permit and have driven about two and a half hours.
Sydney: I have my permit and have driven about 20 to 30 hours. I’ve driven to Lima twice. I usually drive around Ada. I drove to - where was that? - Dunkirk.
Shelbey: I don’t have my permit yet.

Okay, if you could take anyone in the world to a restaurant in Ada with only you and that person, who would you invite and where would you eat?
Alissa:
Jack Barakat and it doesn’t matter where we’d go. Anywhere.
Sydney: Kellin Quinn and we’d go to Taco Bell.
Everyone else: Taco Bell?!
Sydney: Yeah. And we’d talk about his music career.
Shelbey: Zayn Malik. We’d go to Northern on Main. I’d be too star struck to talk.
Cheyenne: I’d take Ryan Gossling to El Campo and I’d ask him to marry me. (Everyone laughed.)

If you had $20,000 to spend on a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Alissa: Europe.
Sydney:
England. I have pen pal there.
Shelbey: New York City or maybe Canada.
Everyone else: Canada?!
Shelbey: Yeah, the people there are nice.
Cheyenne: A shopping mall in Paris.

Tell about the worst-ever movie you ever watched. One where you’d really like to have your money back.
Alissa:
Cabin in the Woods. It was the worst cliché movie ever. These teenagers get stuck in a cabin in the woods. You can figure it out from there.
Sydney: Sweatshop. I watched it in junior high. Teenagers in an abandoned garage. Someone was murdered. The special effects were horrible. Like catsup for blood.
Shelbey: Too many movies to count.
Cheyenne: Elf.
Everyone: Elf?!

Cheyenne: Yeah. It was a really stupid Christmas movie. Everything in it was wrong. The guy wasn’t an elf. The movie just messed with my head.

Well, thanks for talking with the Icon. This is the first time we’ve talked with four students at one time. Good luck this year in school.
