AHS girls swim team placed 6th

PORTAGE, Ind. - The Ada High School girls swim team finished a strong sixth out of 18 teams behind three first-place finishes at the Jay County Invitational in Portage, Indiana on Saturday, January 7.

The Ada boys came in 14th. Oak Hill won both the boys and girls team titles.

Ada sophomore Lily Baumgartner shattered a 32-year old school record in winning the 500 freestyle.  She broke Tanya Nelson’s 1991 Ada mark of 5:37.17 by 10.08 seconds in a time of 5:27.09.

Baumgartner also won the 100 butterfly race.

“Lily always has a great attitude and always shows up to do her best,” said Ada head coach Ashley Robey. “She has consistently dropped time and broken records throughout the season. She works very hard and it shows.”

Ada senior Carlie Oldfield touched first in the 50 freestyle, and finished fifth in the 100 backstroke.

Kaitlyn Bowden dropped 1.25 seconds in the 100 back, where she placed 12th. The senior also came in a solid 11th in the 100 butterfly.

Ada junior Jack Baumgartner finished ninth in the 500 freestyle to post the top Bulldog boys finish.

“Jack also continues to surprise me with how much time he can drop at each meet,” said Robey. “He dropped almost eight seconds at the Holiday Invitational, and then came out here and dropped over another second in his 500 free.

“He also dropped his 200 free time by 5.5 seconds,” she continued. “Jack pushes himself at every practice and every meet and that hard work is paying off,” she added.

Senior Brayden Miller took 10th in the 200 individual medley.

Sam Crawford dropped another two seconds in his 50 free event and axed 3.5 seconds off his best 100 free time.

“Sam continues to improve every day and is dropping time at every meet,” said Robey. “I’m really impressed with his work ethic and drive to continue to get better.”

“Overall we had a great meet with great results, and I’m excited to see their continued progress,” Robey said.
