Paul and Commager's record days lead No. 12 Women's Track & Field at Keeler Invitational

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Senior Kendra Paul (Ada) and senior Kelsey Commager (Maumee) set the school record in the javelin to lead the No. 12-ranked Ohio Northern women's track and field team at the Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Ill.

No team scores were kept at the meet.

Paul finished third overall in the javelin throw and posted a new school record with a toss of 138' 1".

The throw currently ranks 13th nationally.

Commager also posted a school record and competed in the triple jump, posting a fourth place finish with a school-record leap of 38' 4". 

Ada schools issue new guidelines for parents requesting teachers

Requests must be in writing by June 15

Ada schools released new guidelines for parents wishing to request teachers for their children for the 2017-18 school year.

The announcement was made in the May elementary newsletter.

The guidelines follow:

• Classroom requests may only be made for grades kindergarten, first, second and third grades.

• Parents may only request one teacher at that grade level, which they do not want their child to have for the upcoming school year.

• All requests must be in writing, signed and dated by the parent, and received by the principal by June 15, 2017.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine ONU law graduation speaker

He and his family have close ties to ONU

Mike DeWine, Attorney General for the State of Ohio, and ONU alumus is this year's speaker at the Pettit College of Law commencement on Sunday, May 21.

He and his family have strong connections to the ONU College of Law. DeWine earned an honorary doctorate from Ohio Northern in 1995. Further, his daughter Alice graduated from ONU’s College of Law in 2008.

The commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. on May 21. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m., with the musical prelude at 1:30 p.m. and the academic processional at 1:45 pm. A reception will be held in the College of Law building following the ceremony.

Betty Jane Smith 1926 - 2017

Betty Jane (Twigg) Smith, age 91, died Friday, May 12, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Willow Ridge of Bluffton, Ohio.

Betty was born on May 6, 1926 in Knox County, Ohio to John William and Osee Caroline (Cramer) Miller Twigg who preceded her in death. On May 11, 1947 Betty Jane married Albert F. Smith, Jr. who preceded her in death on January 28, 2007.
