Season Review: Wrestling posts third consecutive winning season in 2016-17

ADA — The Ohio Northern wrestling team enjoyed another successful season as it posted its third consecutive winning season under 29th-year head coach Ron Beaschler in 2016-17.

The Polar Bears were 11-4 overall and posted a 4-2 record in the Ohio Athletic Conference, finishing third in the conference standings.

Northern saw three athletes earn All-Conference honor during the 2016-17 campaign.

Sophomore Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) each earned First Team All-OAC honors, while junior Seth Meyer (Defiance) was named Second Team All-OAC for the Polar Bears.

Impromptu singing

Sing along with the students at the ONU Community Preschool. Dr. Terri Lenzo, music education professor at ONU, leads some singing at the preschool. Students individually chose the sounds for each new verse.

ONU given ‘Voter Friendly Campus’ designation

Ohio Northern University has been designated a “Voter Friendly Campus” by the Voter Friendly Campus initiative, which encourages college students to participate in the political process.

ONU is part of a select group of universities nationwide to earn this honor and one of only eight campuses in Ohio.

Liberty National CEO testifies during Ohio House committee meeting

Speaking out against House Bill 67

Ron Zimmerly, Liberty National Bank president and CEO, recently testified in the Ohio House Financial Institutions, Housing, and Urban Development Committee in opposition to House Bill 67. 

This bill would only permit the use of cognovit notes for monetary default on commercial lending contracts, thus removing a safety net that allows lenders to mitigate some of the risk taken on these high-dollar loans.

Zimmerly’s testimony emphasized that the use of a cognovit note, or confession of judgment, is used only as a last resort option and must be valid, justifiable, and within legal reason for a judge to approve the request to call the loan. 

Sugar Grove United Methodist has blessing of bikes May 21

The blessing of the bikes is at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church on Sunday, May 21.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. at the church located at 4945 State Route 81 Ada. 

According to the pastor, "Please join us for a time of worship, as we pray for a safe summer of riding and fun. Ride your motorcycle to church. All are welcome to attend."
