ONU women's track team ranked 25th in DIII national poll

The Ohio Northern women's track and field team is ranked 25th nationally in the fourth weekly USTFCCCA Division III Outdoor National Track and Field rankings.

This is the first time in school history the women's track and field team has received this honor.

Washington (Mo.) claimed the top spot, followed by Nebraska Wesleyan in second and Claremont Mudd-Scripps in third.

The Polar Bears are currently 61-7 overall after winning the Polar Bear Invitational this past weekend.

Northern returns to action Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.

Ohio Northern University hosts Spring Social Studies Day Friday

Ohio Northern University will host its Spring Social Studies Day in the Dicke Forum on Friday, April 29, at 9 a.m.

The intent of this event is to provide area high school students and teachers with a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the social studies. More than 100 students and their teachers from Ada High School, Lima Senior High School and Piqua High School are scheduled to attend.

The event begins with James F. Dicke II, chairman and CEO of Crown Equipment Corporation, who will discuss “William M. McCulloch and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”

Jazz Ensemble to ‘Swing in the Spring’ April 28

The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents “Swing in the Spring,” a performance by the ONU Jazz Ensemble, in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m.

Fresh off of its tour through New Orleans, La., the ONU Jazz Ensemble will perform a wide selection of classics from the Ellington and Basie bands. The performance also will feature the ONU Student Jazz Combos and Gene Parker on saxophone.

Symphony Orchestra and University Singers present season-finale concert April 30

The Ohio Northern University Department of Music presents the Ohio Northern Symphony Orchestra and University Singers in a season-finale concert in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of Ben Ayling, the University Singers will perform “Sing Dem Herrn,” a composition by Pretorius arranged by Wallace DePue, Bowling Green State University professor emeritus. Compositions by Palestrina, Helvey and Ola Gjeilo will follow. The world premiere of “For Our World” will then be presented.

Grilling season is here
