Sumner battles way to state meet

By Cort Reynolds

TROY - Mission accomplished.

Ada junior wrestler Chase Sumner had to win his way through four matches Saturday, and did so to clinch a return ticket to the state meet with a third-place finish in the 138 lb. bracket at the Div. III district event this weekend in Troy.

Sumner, now 38-3 this season after going 5-1 at districts, won his first round match at Hobart Arena Friday. But he lost in the quarterfinals of the double-elimination event later that day to make his road to Columbus more difficult.

Little Elliot Razek may be ONU's biggest fan

By Monty Siekerman
Little Elliot Razek may be holding a valuable basketball, if the ONU undefeated women's basketball team wins the national championship.

That possibility is looking more likely since the Polar Bears convincingly beat the champion of the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference on Friday and the on Saturday stopped Trine University of Indiana.

The miniball was signed by all of the ONU players. Elliot has probably seen more basketball games than most adults ever have.

He's seen nearly all of the women's games the past four years because his aunt, Angela Tesny, is senior 5-8 guard on the Polar Bear team.

Making some noise

Even though ONU spring break started Friday, a large contingent remained on campus to cheer on the Polar Bears. Their noise-making worked. ONU convincingly won by 32 points, as the team's historic, undefeated season continues. ONU won on Saturday and this coming weekend's games are also in Ada. (Monty Siekerman photo)
