Fit 4 Life BFR membership available this month

Bluffton Family Recreation offers its "Fit 4 Life" membership in January, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

The membership provides a six-week BFR membership, unlimited access to all BFR facilities including the indoor walking track, fitness center, arena and gymnasium. It also connects persons with a health coach to guide you through the six week period.

It also offers an "any class" fitness card for yoga, water aerobics, cardio and strength, total body conditioning and SilverSneakers.

The program officially started last week but is still open to persons interested in participating. Here's an overview of the program:

49 cent first-class post rates remain; other U.S. Postal costs go up on Jan. 17

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) will implement new postage rates on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, for several mail classes and special services. The increases do not affect the price of a one-ounce first-class letter, currently at 49 cents. Click here for a chart listing all rates.

2015 was active year for Ada Tree Commission

Education and involvement were the hallmarks of the Ada Tree Commission work in 2015.
The commission hosted a public meeting in April to discuss the declining pear trees along Main Street. Village forester Terry Keiser and an employee of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources made presentations.

Commission members took part in the Chamber of Commerce spring event at War Memorial Park. Youth and adults learned how to properly plant a tree when a large tree was planted at the event.

Apollo board reorganizes for 2016; Ron Fleming, Ada board rep

Apollo Career Center’s board will reorganize for 2016 at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 14, in the Apollo board room, according to Nancy Hilden, superintendent.

Ron Fleming is the Ada school board representative to the Apollo board. A board agenda is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Hardin Economic Development Committee meets at Ridgemont on Jan. 22

Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance Economic Development Committee and for those members who would like to participate on the committee will hold its first meeting of 2016 from 8 to 9:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 22, 2016, at the new Ridgemont School in Mt. Victory.

"We are pleased by the invitation of the Ridgemont School District and Superintendent Emmy Beeson for hosting our meeting and providing a personal tour of the new state-of-the-art facility," said Jon Cross of the Alliance.

Winter finally arrives in Ada - time to get out the plow

Old Man Winter arrived in Ada on Jan. 10.  The old guy has a mean streak as he arrived the same day that all Ohio Northern Unviersity students were to return to campus.

Like it or not, he's here. Ken Collins drove around town and provided these views to prove that winter is finally in Ada.

Earlier in the day Hardin County Sheriff's Office announced a snow advisory. Another story on this page tells about a weather-related accident on State Route 235.
