Keep watching that Railroad Park caboose - new lease of life on the way

Photos and story by Monty Siekerman

Hopefully, the caboose in the Railroad Park downtown will get a new lease on life. Hopefully, in 2016.

An expert on trains and their restoration met with townspeople, city officials, professors and students on Monday afternoon to see what needs to be done to spruce up and repair the caboose and how much the work will cost.

The caboose is an important part of the park...it is used as a background for photographs on an almost daily basis, children enjoy climbimg the stairs and turning the steering wheels, train buffs study it, and, for many, the caboose brings back memories of the heyday of trains.

Stumped? Or do you know where this is?

In the Ada Icon's continuing quest to stump our readers, we offer this photo taken in Ada. Know where it is?

Hint: in the lobby of a center on Main Street. The words are so true, as you know, if you have ever dealt with a multinational corporation or federal agency...and remember, "the conversation is being recorded for quality assurance and training purposes."

The answer: In the waiting room of Family Chiropractic Center, i.e. the offices of Dr. Larry Hubbell and Dr. Todd Gillfillan at 108 N. Main. (Monty Siekerman)

That stylized "W" puts Ada on the map - especially during the Super Bowl

By Monty Siekerman

This stylized W is, as all good Adaites know, the logo of Wilson Sporting Goods, maker of the Super Bowl football for many years.

This is the time of year when the media descends on our village to report on the making of the all-important pigskin.

In the past few days, the local factory has hosted representatives from A&E, Kenton, Lima, Findlay, and Columbus....and, of course, your Ada Icon.

Next week more the national media will be here, putting Ada on the map once more.

Ada HS sophomores visit Apollo Career Center Friday

Approximately 650 sophomores in Apollo Career Center’s 11-member district, including students from Ada HS, will be visiting Apollo during 411Blast, Friday, Jan. 29.

Parents of sophomore students interested in attending Apollo for the 2016-17 school year are also invited to meet their student at Apollo.

The day is designed to expose students to career possibilities, and what paths are available that may lead to their career and/or college success. Students choose two programs of interest and then spend one-half day visiting those labs, meeting the instructors and participating in fun, interactive demos and activities.
