Elmer Collins 1929 - 2019

Elmer Collins, 89, on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at 8:30 a.m. at his daughter’s residence in Elida, Ohio.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1929, in Alger, Ohio, to the late Burley and Rosie (Oliver) Collins. On June 9, 1950, Elmer married Erma Lee Stone and she preceded him in death on Feb. 24, 2014.

Elmer retired from Ford Motor Company of Lima in 1973. He was a member of the UAW Local #1219. He was a member of the Lima First Assembly of God Church.

Frances Nichols was a life-long resident of Alger

Frances E. Nichols, 92, died Monday, July 22, 2019, at 9:28 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born on Feb. 25, 1927, in Hardin County, Ohio, to the late Royal and Rosa (Coppler) Nichols.

Frances retired from Trend Trim Company of Spencerville after working for  34 years. She graduated from Alger High School class of 1945.  She resided with her niece, Teresa (Bernie) Rowe of Harrod for the last seven years.

Also surviving are her adopted brother and sister: Larry Allen Coppler-Nichols and Joyce Coppler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret Gossard – 1936 - 2019

Margaret J. Gossard, 82, died on Thursday, July 18, 2019, at 3:46 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born on July 23, 1936, in Alger, Ohio, to the late Harry and Sarah (Coppler) Nichols. On Sept. 2, 1969 Margaret married Leslie A. Gossard and he died March 10, 1970.

Margaret was a homemaker. She was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger.

She is survived by a daughter: Lana A. (Bill Stebleton) Freshcorn of Lima; and one granddaughter: Desirea Freshcorn; two grandsons: Anthony Ellis and Eric Smith; and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.

Hilda Binkley Young was an Ada High School graduate

Hilda M. Young, 89, died July 21, 2019, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Bowling Green, Ohio. Hilda was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Ada to the late Coy and Mabel (Scoles) Binkley.  On Oct. 15, 1948, she married Edison "Eddie" Young and they were married for 62 years prior to his death on Oct. 27, 2011.

Hilda graduated from Ada High School and was a homemaker.  She enjoyed cooking, fishing and dogs. Hilda and her husband enjoyed going camping in Michigan's Upper Peninsula for weeks at a time where they loved to fish. They spent many weekends at their place on the Lake in Michigan, where eight families from Bluffton had places all side by side each other called "Doc's Hideaway."

Roland Knoop memorial service Thursday

Roland Moore Knoop, 91, died July 5, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Willow Ridge, Bluffton, Ohio.

He was born on March 14, 1928, in Troy, Ohio, to J. Ross and Ethel Mae (Moore) Knoop and they preceded him in death.  In 1958 he married Eloise Crawford and they are divorced.

Roland retired from Schmidlapp Equipment in Covington, Ohio, where he had been a parts man. He previously worked at the Soil Conservation Service in Hardin County for 5 years and was owner of the John Deere Dealership in Kenton from 1965 to 1969. 

Marie Kaiser was a cook for several years in USV schools

Marie Kaiser, 88, died Thursday, July 11, 2019, at 6:59 PM at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima, Ohio.

She was born on Jan. 24, 1931, in Allen County, Ohio, to the late Walter and Nellie (Underwood) Thompson. On Dec. 5, 1948, Marie married Lewis E. Kaiser and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1999.

Marie formerly worked as a cook for the Upper Scioto Valley Schools for several years. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of Alger. Marie was a Blue Star Mother of three.
