2016 Hardin Leadership Class will form soon

Participants for the twenty-fourth annual Hardin Leadership class, a program designed for the development of informed and effective community leaders, are being recruited now until March 4. 

Hardin Leadership is sponsored and conducted by the Hardin Leadership Steering
Committee. Nine monthly sessions will focus on the knowledge/skills required by today's community leader, such as team building, public speaking, and marketing.

This year’s program will be offered in morning sessions on the second Thursdays, March through November except for the third Thursday in September because of the Hardin County Fair.

4th to 8th grade school spelling bee Feb. 15

How's your spelling?

Ada fourth through eighth graders are preping for this year's spelling bee. It's at 1:15 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the school auditorium.

Here are the contestants:

8th grade: Three of these seven students who are taking a tie-breaker spelling test:
Isaac, Nathan, Theo, Madison, Hunter, Ryley, Khyler
7th grade: Ryan, Jacob, Megan (Alt: Leona)
6th grade: Ireland, Eddy, Lauren (alt: Molly)
5th grade: Lily, Dale, Kayla (Alt: Robyn)
4th grade: Autumn, Abdallah, Kailey (Alt: Tara)

"Corn University," and "Soybean School" coming to ONU in March - audience of 900 anticipated

That's right, for two days in early March, you might as well refer to Ohio Northern University as Corn University and Soybean School.

Why?

The Conservation Tillage Conference will be held at the McIntosh Center Wednesday and Thursday, March 2 and 3. It's an event put on by The Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES).

Over 900 persons are expected to attend.

CTC will offer many presentations to help growers learn where to cut back while ensuring they have healthy soils, healthy water and hopefully a healthy bank account.

You can't lose with flowers from Carol Slane Florist on V Day

Carol Slane Florist owner Shannon Brown says Valentine's flowers, candy, and stuffed animals are available at her Main Street shop.

Many customers select holiday gifts at the last minute, but this year Valentine's is on a Sunday, so shop early.

The store will be open regular hours this week, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday 9 to noon. She has more than 1,000 roses on hand and a big assortment of other flowers which can be purchased wrapped in tissue or arranged in a vase with baby's breath.

Icon's Valentine's Day tip: Consider supper at Viva Maria's

If you are thinking of taking your valentine out to dinner this weekend, check out Viva Maria Pizza and Pasta at124 E. Buckeye.

The Italian-American restaurant is offering a huge selection on their buffet for $13.95. To top off the meal, the buffet includes cream puffs with cannoli cream and chocolate drizzle.

The specialty buffet for Valentines features pasta carbonara as well as many other dishes.
Megan and Amanda Lotz will provide the entertainment.

Reservations are recommended, but not necessary (567-940-8482). Serving will be from 5 to 9 pm.

Heart-shaped flowers - does that give you any ideas?

Laurie Laird, owner of New Leaf Garden Center, has heart-shaped cyclamen for sale for Valentine's.

Also, potted miniature roses, violets, and candy are available at the store which is located at 0395 SR 235 north of town.

The garden center is open year-round. It will be open regular hours this week and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., closed Sunday.
