ONU volleyball sweeps Rose-Hulman

ADA — The No. 21-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team swept Rose-Hulman (Ind.) and Albion (Mich.) on Friday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears (20-4 overall) defeated the Engineers (14-10) 25-21, 25-22, 25-20 in the first match of the day, then topped the Britons (12-9) 25-13, 25-15, 25-19 in the second match.

Against RHIT, sophomore McKenna Jordan (Toledo/Saint Ursula) had 12 kills and sophomore Chelsea Huppert(Bremen, Ind.) had 11 kills.

Freshman Katie Wade (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) had 38 assists and sophomore Kristin Langston(Versailles) had a match-high 25 digs for the hosts.

Women's soccer runs win streak to 10 games

ADA — The No. 15-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team used two first half goals to extend its winning streak to 10 games as it shutout John Carroll 2-0 on Friday evening at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 12-1-1 overall, and remain unbeaten in the Ohio Athletic Conference at 5-0-0, while the Blue Streaks drop to 7-4-2, 3-1-1.

Sophomore Rose Nienaber (Cincinnatti/Oak Hills) and junior Sarah Puntel (Strongsville) each scored goals to lead ONU offensively, while sophomore Haley Moses (Mason) added an assist for ONU.

Black Knights blank Ada

ADA - The visiting Van Buren boys soccer team shut out Ada 3-0 Thursday
evening in the regular season finale.

The loss ended the Bulldog regular season with a record of 11-5, their
best finish in years.

Ada senior keeper Ace Gamble made five saves in goal.

VB also won a half JV game after the varsity contest, 1-0.

Sixth-seeded Ada plays next in the sectional first round when they host
ninth seed Willard Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 5 p.m.

The winner advances to visit second seed Mansfield Christian Saturday,
Oct. 21 in the second round of the tournament.

FINDLAY - Visiting Ada scored first but lost 8-1 in a non-league girls
soccer match Wednesday evening at Liberty-Benton.

The defeat snapped a three-match Lady Bulldog win streak, dropping their
record to 5-10.

Katie Butterfield scored the Ada goal early on to put the Bulldogs ahead
1-0. But the Eagles responded with five first half goals to grab a 5-1
halftime lead.

L-B added three more scores after intermission to provide the final margin.

Ada keeper McKenzie Long stopped 37 shots in goal. L-B out-shot Ada, 48-20.

Men's swim and dive teams look strong this season

The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team will look to rebound in 2017-18 and claim its 13th Ohio Athletic Conference Championship under the guidance of 14th-year head coach Peggy Ewald. 

The Polar Bears posted a 5-4 record last season and finished second at the OAC Championships in 2016-17 after posting 12 straight OAC Championship seasons.

Ewald and her staff welcome back a deep roster that includes 14 letterwinners.

"Recapturing conference titles and looking beyond to the national stage is the pursuit," said head coach Peggy Ewald. "

Ada's Kyley Stuart returns to ONU swim team

Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team will look to compete for an Ohio Athletic Conference Championship under 14th-year head coach Peggy Ewald.

The Polar Bears posted a third place finish in the OAC during the regular season and at the OAC Championships a season ago.

Ewald and her staff welcome back 10 letterwinners in 2017-18 and will look to lean on their experience in 2017-18.

Kyley Stuart also returns after earning All-OAC honors as a part of the 200 Medley Relay.

The Polar Bears open the season on Oct. 14 as the swimmers compete in the Kenyon Relay Meet and the divers in the Denison Diving Meet.
