CANTON - Ada sophomore Klava Katayama finished 16th in the 50-yard freestyle finals of the 42nd annual Ohio Div. II girls state swim meet at Canton's C.T. Branin Natatorium Friday evening.
Katayama swam the 50-yard free B finals in a time of 24.71, finishing eighth in the B finals heat. The top eight from the prelims Thursday competed in the eight-swimmer A Finals.
"We're both pretty happy that she made it back to the finals for the first time," said Ada head coach Tanner Holke. Katayama took 17th at state in the freestyle last year.
BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton ended the first half on a 19-3 run and cruised to a 60-30 win over local rival Ada in the Northwest Conference boys basketball season finale Friday night.
The purple and gold finish the regular season 4-18 overall and 2-6 in the NWC with the defeat. Meanwhile, the Pirates improved to 10-12 and 4-4 in league play after the victory.
"We did not come ready to play," said Ada second-year head coach Dre White.

Top-seeded Barcaskey finished runner-up at Heavyweight with a 3-1 record and sixth-seeded Nelson won his third place match at 165 and finished with a 4-1 record.
