For the fifth consecutive season, the Ohio Northern men's track and field team posted a top-3 finish at the indoor Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, posting a third place finish at the Capital Center in Bexley.

The Polar Bears improve to 33-17 with the top-3 finish.

Mount Union won the meet on the men's side with 187.5 points, John Carroll claimed second place with 111 points and Northern was third with 104 points.

Senior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich./DeLaSalle) led the way with two first place finishes for the Polar Bears.

GAMBIER — ONU freshman Marissa Taylor (Granite Falls, N.C./South Caldwell) competed in the 400 I.M. on Saturday at the Kenyon Fast Chance Meet at the Steen Aquatic Center.

Taylor touched third in 4:43.85.

She entered the meet ranked 78th in the event with a season-best time of 4:38.70 set last week at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.

Taylor and her Polar Bear teammates must wait until Tuesday when the field for the 2018 NCAA III Championships, held March 21-24 in Indianapolis, are announced.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — John Carroll scored on eight of its first 10 second half possessions and pulled away for a 94-77 victory over Ohio Northern in the championship game of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament on Saturday night at the DeCarlo Center.

The third-seeded Polar Bears (19-9 overall) must now wait until Monday at 12:30 pm when the NCAA III Tournament field is revealed to see if their season will continue.

The top-seeded Blue Streaks (23-5 overall) win the league's automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament.

Despite the best efforts of the ONU student cheering block, the Lady Bears lost to Marietta in the finals of the OAC tourney at King-Horn on Saturday afternoon. The score: ONU 68, Marietta 85. The Lady Bears were behind by only 1 point at the start of the 4th quarter, but Marietta was unstoppable in the closing minutes. More details will be posted in the Ada Icon later.

BEXLEY — Sophomore Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay) tied the 60-meter dash school record and broke the 200-meter dash school record, while junior Maddy Reed (Piketon) claimed the pole vault title to lead Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team on the first day of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor track and field championships.

The Polar Bears are first of 10 teams in the teams standings.

Lavey tied the school record in the 60-meter dash prelims, qualifying for Saturday's finals in :7.96.

ONU junior Ian McVey (Stow/Munroe Falls) and the men's distance medley relay team each earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors to lead the Ohio Northern men's indoor track and field team on the first day of the OAC Championships at the Capital Center.

The Polar Bears are currently fifth of 10 teams with 18 points after the first day of the meet.

Mount Union leads the way with 41.5 points, John Carroll is in second with 38 points and Heidelberg is third with 21 points.
