Pirates edge Ada boys

ADA - The host Ada boys soccer team got blanked by Bluffton 2-0 in a Northwest Conference match Tuesday evening.

 

The Bulldog defeat dropped their record to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the NWC.

 

Senior keeper Ace Gamble made four saves in goal for Ada (2-2 home).

 

Bluffton also won the reserve match, 2-0.

 

Ada (5-1 road) visits Riverdale Thursday, Sept. 28.

Bulldog spikers knock off Knights; Woods sets kill record

CONVOY - The visiting Ada volleyball team won a five-set marathon at Crestview Tuesday night in a battle of Northwest Conference unbeatens.

 

The Lady Bulldogs prevailed 22-25, 27-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-6 to improve to 9-7 overall and 3-0 in the NWC. Crestview fell to 10-3 and 4-1 in the NWC with the five-set loss.

 

Ada senior ace Melina Woods broke her own school record for kills in match (38) with 48 kills, which is the second-highest match total in Ohio high school annals.

 

Woods also added 16 digs and had five blocks.

 

Football celebrates Homecoming with 35-7 victory over Otterbein

ADA -- Ohio Northern celebrated its Homecoming Weekend with a 35-7 football victory over Otterbein on a warm Saturday afternoon at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

The Polar Bears (2-1 overall, 1-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) used a dominating second half in the victory, holding the Cardinals (3-1, 2-1) to just 40 yards of total offense and one first down in the final 30 minutes.

Meanwhile the ONU offense would gain 243 yards of offense and score 22 points in the second half to put the game away.

Ada hosts Grove on Homecoming

ADA - After spending 80 percent of its season on the road so far, Ada
celebrates Homecoming to kick off the second half against struggling but
dangerous Northwest Conference rival Columbus Grove.

Ada (3-2, 1-1 NWC) posted a 3-1 road record in the first half, thus down
the stretch the Bulldogs will host four of their final five regular season
games at War Memorial Stadium.

When asked whether being back home will help give his team a boost, head
coach Bob Olwin said, "I hope so. It is the last ride for our 13 seniors."

The purple and gold lost their lone home game so far in week three to LCC,
41-21.

Ada girls sweep Wildcats

KENTON - The visiting Ada volleyball team beat Hardin County rival Kenton in three straight sets Monday night in a non-league match.

 

The Bulldogs improved to 8-7 overall with the sweep, while the Wildcats dropped to 4-8 with the defeat.

 

Ada senior standout Melina Woods led Ada with 20 kills. Freshman Megan Light contributed a career-high 11 kills.

 

Ada (2-0 NWC, 2-2 away) plays a key conference match at league-leader Crestview (4-0 NWC, 9-2) Tuesday night.

 

Meagan Grierson named OAC Player of the Week

ADA — Ohio Northern sophomore Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 18-24.

The sophomore earned the honor for the first time in her career.

Grierson, the 2016 OAC Goalkeeper of the Year, led Northern to a perfect 3-0-0 week.

The sophomore tallied three saves during the week, and extended her shutout streak to seven straight games, including five straight shutout victories.

Her 13 career shutouts currently rank seventh all-time at ONU.

Grierson and the Polar Bear defense has not allowed a goal in the last 708:36 minutes.
