ONU senior Bobby Borger (Perrysburg) has been named a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America Individual All-Academic recipient, while the men's cross country team earned the Team All-Academic Award.

The Polar Bears (126-37 overall) earned the team honor for the second consecutive season under ninth-year head coach Jason Maus.

Borger, a 2017 First Team All-OAC honoree and 2017 All-Great Lakes Region honoree, earned the individual honor for the first time in his career. 

ONU senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) and the women's cross country team were recipients of academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches for their efforts in the classroom during the 2017 campaign.

Richards, a 2017 All-American, Ohio Athletic Conference Female Co-Runner of the Year, and All-Ohio Female Runner of the Year was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic individual for the 2017 season and earned the honor for the second time in her career.

WAPAKONETA - The Ada boys basketball team was seeded ninth of 12 teams at the Coldwater/Bath Div. IV sectional drawings held Sunday at Wapakoneta.

 

The purple and gold ( 4-15) will take on Waynesfield-Goshen (4-15) Tuesday, February 27 in the sectional semifinals at Coldwater at 6:15 p.m.

 

The Bulldogs lost at Waynesfield 62-56 back on December 29 in the semifinals of the inaugural Border Battle tournament.

 

The Ada/W-G winner will then face tough St. Henry (16-2), which received a first round bye, in the sectional finals on Friday, March 2 at 6 p.m.

LIMA - The Ada girls and boys swim teams competed in the Div. II swim sectionals at the Lima YMCA Saturday, with three Bulldog athletes qualifying for the district meet next Friday.

 

Ada sophomore Klava Katayama won the 100 butterfly race and finished second in the 50 freestyle to qualify for the Bowling Green district event in both events.

 

Katayama dominated in the 100 fly, out-distancing second-place finisher Claire Gass of Celina by 3.64 seconds. She set a Div. II Lima girls sectional meet record at 58.89. Her time would have placed her in the top eight in the state finals 100 fly race in 2017.

 

WESTERVILLE — The No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team finished fourth at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday at Otterbein's Clements Recreation Center.

The Polar Bears (28-5 overall) finished fourth of 17 teams with 67 points. Otterbein won the team title with 109 points, Mount Union was second with 106 points and Ohio Wesleyan was third with 87 points.

Sophomore Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay) and junior All-American Maddie Reed (Piketon) led Ohio Northern individually with second place finishes.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — John Carroll used a 13-2 run midway through the fourth quarter to overcome a 7-point deficit and upset No. 15-Ohio Northern 68-66 on Saturday afternoon at the DeCarlo Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 20-3 overall and stay on top of the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 14-2 record, while the Blue Streaks improve to 6-17, 4-12.

Senior Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds and sophomore Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead ONU.
