Aug. 11 funeral service for Gordon Diller, Bluffton businessman

Was funeral director of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton

Gordon R. Diller, 67, died Aug. 5, 2018, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.  Gordon was born Dec. 6, 1950, in Pandora to the late Roger and Marjorie (Gratz) Diller. On Dec. 21, 1985 he married Jodi Lugibihl Diller who survives.

Gordon graduated from Pandora-Gilboa High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. Gordon attended Bluffton College and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1977. 

He was a funeral director at Halteman-Fett-Dyer Funeral Home in Lancaster, Ohio following graduation. Gordon then purchased Haas-Diller Funeral Home in Pandora. 

Two golfers honored for scholarship

Ohio Northern men's golfers Zach Goodchild (Pickerington/North) and Nick Anderson (Mason) recently added their names to the annual Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar awards list, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Goodchild, a statistics/risk management and insurance major, received his second All-America Scholar honor.

Beaschler takes ONU wrestlers into 31st season

Season opens at Mt. Union Invitational

Under the direction of 31st-year head coach Ron Beaschler, the Ohio Northern wrestling program will open its 2018-19 regular season at the Mount Union Invitational on Nov. 10.

The Polar Bears will then return to Ada, raising the curtain on a three-event home slate with a visit from OAC foe Otterbein on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The opening month of action will conclude with trips to the Findlay Open on Nov. 17 and Heidelberg on Nov. 27.

Northern will host the 38th annual ONU Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 1 with opening bouts beginning at 9 a.m.

Ever wondered where your refuse and recycling goes?

Republic Services is Ada’s refuse and recycling provider. It is a large-scale, nationwide company, with a local team based in Lima. Republic Services collects and recycles over five million tons of material annually. It also serves Bluffton, Lima, Ottawa and Carey, among other area villages. The village of Ada has contracted its services until this November, when the contact is up for renewal.

When your refuse is collected from your curb, it goes to a landfill in Carey. 

Public auction Aug. 18, Country Road 29

A public auction of a country home, 1721 Hancock County Road 29, the Willis Anderson property, is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, according to Walter Brothers auctioneers/realtors.

The auction includes personal property at 10 a.m. and real estate at noon. For a complete list of auction items see the attached display ad.
