Volleyball ranked 21st in nation

he Ohio Northern volleyball team remained at No. 21 in the seventh weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, released Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears (21-4 overall, 4-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) received 349 points in the poll.

Ohio Northern went 4-0 last week with after defeating Heidelberg and posting a 3-0 record at the annual ONU Triangular.

Women's soccer helps children with brain cancer

For the third consecutive season, the No. 15-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team will host its annual Friends of Jaclyn contest at Kerscher Stadium as it hosts Muskingum on Saturday, Oct. 21.

The Polar Bears (13-1-1 overall, 6-0-0 OAC), became members of Friends of Jaclyn in 2015; a foundation whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children battling pediatric brain tumors and other child hood cancers to raise awareness through their Adopt-A-Child, Safe on the Sidelines and Guardian Angel Programs.

Chamber feasts on surf and turf

Ada Area Chamber of Commerce members dined on steak and lobster during Wednesday morning's breakfast meeting. The free breakfast is a feature at the monthly meetings, held the third Wednesday of each month in the Dean's Room in McIntosh. Sodex catered the breakfast.

New water and sewer lines coming...and much more

A portion of Willeke Avenue will have new water and sanitary sewer lines, the road will be improved, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks installed...but at a cost.

The work is estimated to cost about $1.1 million, and homeowners may be assessed for part of the cost, about $6,000 per lot.

The project will help with the street flooding during rains. The water and sewer lines are very old.

The area considered phase 1 extends from Ackerman to Orders, which is the east portion of Willeke. The remainder of the street will be phase 2, which is still in the planning stages.

Brit Rowe selected to speak at Hawaii arts and humanities conference

His topic: Community-based graphic design

Brit Rowe, associate professor in art & design at Ohio Northern University, will be in Hawaii in January.

He  was selected to present at the International Conference on Arts & Humanities organized by the University of Hawaii. The conference is Jan. 9–12, in Honolulu.

The conference’s main goal is to provide an opportunity for academicians and professionals from various arts and humanities related fields from all over the world to come together with cross-disciplinary interests to meet, interact, and learn with members inside and outside their own particular disciplines.

Ada hosts local traditional rival Bluffton Friday for week nine in another must-win situation to keep their post-season hopes alive.

The Bulldogs averted an upset by Paulding (1-7, 0-5 NWC) last week at home
by scoring 22 second half points to defeat the surprisingly tough Panthers, 22-16.

Meanwhile, the dangerous Pirates (3-5, 2-3 NWC) loat at league-leading
Spencerville (6-2, 5-0 NWC) last Friday, 33-10.
