Feb. 21 Linda Dearth benefit

ReStore Community Center, 210 N. Main St., Ada, will host a special meal to benefit Linda Dearth, store manager. The meal is Crock pot Tuesday, Feb. 21, with serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Persons with questions may call ReStore at 419-558-1015.

Sidney Faine on Defiance College honors list

Sidney Faine, 2016 Ada High School grad, is on the Defiance College honors list.

The honors list is for students achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and enrolled in 6-11 semester hours for which letter grades are given.

 

Cambodian art up for auction

The law college will host a benefit silent auction of Cambodian artwork from Feb. 20 through Feb. 24. The auction will feature artwork created by students from Phare Ponleu Selpak, a performing arts school in Battambang, and will be on display from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.daily in the College of Law’s Clemens Lounge.

Proceeds will be donated to two Cambodian schools, Phare Ponleu Selpak and a school started by the People Improvement Organization (PIO). 

Individuals who do not wish to bid or are unable to attend the event are still welcome to donate by contacting Julie Smith at [email protected].

ONU's Veon, Watson lead women swim at OAC

ONU Junior Sydney Veon (Riverside, Ill./Brookfield) and sophomore Kierra Watson (Brownsburg, Ind.) earned All-Conference honors to lead the Ohio Northern women on the first day of the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.

Veon was second in the 50 free in :24.38 and Watson was second in the 200 I.M. in 2:13.16.

ONU also earned All-OAC accolades in the 200 free relay, as Veon, senior Stacie Melody (Dublin/Jerome), junior Molly Wheeler(Sylvania/Northview) and senior Stephanie Brookens (Louisville) were second in 1:39.00.

Ada’s Past Is Revealing Today

(Dave Devier, Ph.D., attended ONU and lived in and around the community for 45 years. He taught at Northern for 15 years. Currently, he is President of Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville, Mich. While in the Ada area, he and his wife Patty collected Ada/ONU memorabilia. He will write an occasional column for the Ada Icon describing some of their "finds" that pertain to the town and gown.)

Pfeifer leads ONU men's swimming at OAC

ONU Senior Logan Pfeifer(Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) earned All-Conference honors in the 50 free to lead the Ohio Northern men on the first day of the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.

Pfeifer was second in the event in :21.08.

The top three finishers in each individual event and the top two relay teams earn All-Conference honors.

The Polar Bears are gunning for their 13th consecutive OAC Championships crown under 13th-year head coach Peggy Ewald and are in second place out of seven teams through five of the 20 events.
