Women's basketball climbs another notch

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team made its debut in the top-5 in theD3Hoops.com poll, coming in at No. 5 in the 10th weekly poll.

The Polar Bears continued their quest to a perfect season as they defeated Baldwin Wallace and Muskingum last week.

Northern (21-0 overall) is one of five unbeaten teams in the poll.

The Polar Bears return to action Wednesday evening as they travel to Tiffin to take on the Student Princes of Heidelberg at 7:30 pm.

Legal scholar, author Stephen B. Presser to discuss conservative, liberal approaches to constitutional law at ONU

ADA -- Legal scholar and author Stephen B. Presser will discuss “Do Law Professors Really Understand American Law?” at noon on Feb. 16 in the moot courtroom (room 129) in Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law. His talk, which is part of the Dean’s Lecture Series and is co-sponsored by ONU’s student chapter of the Federalist Society, is free and open to the public.

A new twist on an old theme

February is Valentine's month and there are many ways the month is used to promote friendship and affection. Here's a new approach to spreading some good cheer. Mrs. Hersey and the Ada school cafeteria provided positive messages on banannas. Wonder what they'll come up with tomorrow.

 

Two Alger area fires under investigation

$5,000 reward for information leading to arrest and conviction

A garage fire in Alger and a field fire in Marion Township are being investigated as arson, according to the Hardin County Sheriff's Office.

Both fires are being investigated by the Hardin County Fire and Explosion investigation team. 

The Alger Community Fire Association responded both fires.

On Feb. 3 the fire department responded to a garage fire at 207 W. Wagner St. in Alger. The field fire on Feb. 5 was located in the 1200 block of County Road 92 in Marion Township.

Allen East second grader involved in Monday's fatal accident

An Allen East student died in a traffic accident at the intersection of Lawrence Road and Clum Road at 5:50 p.m. Monday.

Gavin Reed, 8, was a second grader at Allen East Elementary School.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2013 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Richard J. Ortiz, 31, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, travelled southbound on Lawrence Road. A 2001 Ford Taurus, driven by Lisa M. Alexander, 29, of Harrod, was traveling eastbound on Clum Road, with her son, Reed, as a backseat passenger.
