Ohio Northern University is ranked among the top schools in the nation and in the state of Ohio for its students’ tuition return on investment (ROI), according to the recently released 2014 PayScale College ROI Report.
ONU ranked third for private schools and sixth overall in the state of Ohio, along with institutions such as Case Western University, Miami University, University of Dayton and Denison University. Nationally, ONU placed 282nd (113th for private universities) out of 1,330 institutions nationwide.
Community Health Professionals’ annual Hospice-Beacon of Hope dinner and charity auction is Tuesday, May 6, at the ONU Ball Room in McIntosh Center, according to Deb Curlis.
The evening includes at 6 p.m. dinner followed by a 7 p.m. auction. Tickets are $20 each.
“It’s an evening of fun and remembrances with live and silent auctions,” said Curlis. “All proceeds benefit the Visiting Nurses and Hospice services of Community Health Professionals of Ada, 1200 S. Main St.

Ohio Northern University will celebrate its 2014 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony and the Raabe College of Pharmacy Commencement in the Sports Center on Sunday, May 11. The pharmacy ceremony will commence at 9 a.m. followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 2 p.m.

Graduates of the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law continued their record of outstanding achievement on the Ohio bar examination with an overall passage rate of 80 percent, which ranks first among applicants from all Ohio law schools who took the examination in February 2014.
ONU’s passage rate of 80 percent was well above the overall state average of 64.3 percent. Out of 440 applicants who sat for the exam, 283 applicants received passing scores. ONU had an 80 percent passage rate for first-time takers, which was also above the state average of 79 percent.
Cathy Diane (Simon) Robirds, 61, died at 1:32 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.
She was born on July 4, 1952 in Ada, Ohio to Sylvan and Wanda (Morrison) Simon, who preceded her in death. On April 16, 1971, she married Steven D. Robirds and he survives in Ada.
Cathy began her career as a cosmetologist and resigned from Ohio Northern University Heterick Memorial Library in 2004 to dedicate her days to three of her beloved grandchildren. She was an inactive member of the Ada Church of Christ Disciples.
Henry Hurchel Reffitt, Sr. , 81, died at 8:27 a.m. on April 26, 2014 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton.
He was born on April 13, 1933 in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Joe Earlin and Lovanday (Bailey) Reffitt and they preceded him in death. On July 10, 1952, he married Hilda DeLong and she died on May 19, 2009.
Henry owned and operated the Reffitt & Roberts Sawmill and worked at Universal Co-Op in Kenton, retiring in 1995. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War.
The Cessna Minutemen held a meeting on Tuesday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church.
There were thirteen members present and Tyler Merrit led the 4-H pledge. Sydney Gebrin led the Pledge of Allegiance. Treasurer Ashton Stevenson took roll call by asking the members what their favorite Easter candy is. The minutes and the treasurer`s report were both read and approved.
Sara Ruhlen talked about the danger of texting while driving. The club recently held trash pick-up and eight members participated. At the next meeting books will be passed out, as well as 4-H calendars.
