Ohio Northern University student Brittany Lang, a senior graphic design major from Newark, Ohio, was one of six winners at the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio (AICUO) seventh annual Awards for Excellence in the Visual Arts competition held at Ohio Dominican University on April 8.

There's still time to participate in The Village Garden. ReStore, 210 N. Main St., is planning an early spring planting meeting to be held soon.

It’s a pretty neat program involving Ada fourth graders and Kevin Byrne, Ohio Northern University men’s basketball coach, and several team members.

During the second nine weeks of school ONU basketball players teamed up with Ada fourth graders up to improve fourth grader reading skills.

According to Ada fourth graders teachers Mrs. Butterfield, Mrs. Salyer and Mrs. Stuart: “Normally, each student is expected to read daily in order to receive 5 Reading Counts points per week by passing quizzes with at least 70 percent accuracy.”

Eleanor M. Long, 73, died at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at her residence in Ada.

Eleanor was born on February 6, 1941 in Harrod, Ohio to Ralph E. and Elva (Keith) Anspach, and they preceded her in death. On August 23, 1959 she married James M. "Jim" Long and he survives in Ada.

The Ada Public Library reminds teens from 7th through 12th grade that there's still tiem to read "This Dark Endeavor," by Kenneth Oppel. The library's Teen Book Group will discuss the book at 4 p.m., Thursday, April 17.

Here's a summary of the plot:

Victor Frankenstein leads a charmed life. He and his twin brother Konrad and their beautiful cousin Elizabeth take lessons at home and spend their spare time fencing and horseback riding. Along with their friend, Henry, they have explored all the hidden passageways and secret rooms of the palatial Frankenstein chateau. Except one.

My name is Brittney Archer and I am 17 years old. I took the project Vet Science 2: All systems go! I am a part of the Ada Barnyard Farmers.

I’ve been in the group for 7 years now. With the project Vet Science 2 I did several things.

I had to take the temperature, heart rate, and breathing rate of one of my animals. I had to put 4 different kinds of animal feed into 5 jars and try and see which was a better container for the feed.

Lewis Family McDonald’s is giving people a break on tax day.

Ada's McDonald's Restaurant will offer a special promotion on Tuesday, April 15. Customers who buy one Big Mac or Quarter Pounder with Cheese can get the second for just 15 cents.

“Tax Relief Day has become a promotion that our guests look forward to every year,” said Jerry Lewis, McDonald’s owner. “Our tax day event is one more way we are bringing our guests great value.”

The promotion runs the entire day and is available at McDonald’s in Ada, Lima, Delphos, Van Wert, Beaverdam and Bluffton.

Robert L. "Bob" Neumeier, 90, died on Wednesday, April 09, 2014, at 2:45 a.m. at Van Wert Community Health Professionals Hospice, Van Wert.

He was born on August 7, 1923, in Lima, Ohio to Aloise and Anna (Prochaska) Neumeier and they preceded him in death. On September 3, 1954, he married M. Jeanette Long and she died on July 31, 2006.

Ohio Northern University celebrates its annual Honors Day program on Saturday, April 26, from 8:15 a.m. until 5 p.m.

This year’s Honors Day continues the rich tradition of ONU’s colleges and departments recognizing students and faculty members for scholarly achievement and service to the University community. More than 40 undergraduate academic departments and honor societies will present awards and induct new members.
