Ohio Northern University’s Department of Education and the Center for Teacher Education will present “Leading from the Heart” in the James F. Dicke Hall forum on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, and a reception will follow in the atrium of Dicke Hall. Prospective students and their families, teacher candidates, local educators and ONU faculty are all invited to attend.

Tickets for the 2014 fall sports season are now on sale for Ada High School sports fans.

Tickets are available at Ada schools. Prices follow:

This year's Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest and Herb Fest' is Saturday, Sept. 20, in downtown Ada.

The application form for students (ages 15-18) interested in competing for the honor of being the 2014 Harvest and Herb Fest' Queen is now on the Icon.

The application asks potential candidates three questions:

1 - If you were to support a special cause or offer to volunteer for a special organization, which would it be and why?

2 - Describe three characteristics that make you who and what you are today.

3 - What would it mean to you personally and for the Ada community to represent the Harvest and Herb Festival as queen?

The Ada Icon invites Ada sports fans to contact us if you are interested in contributing stories to the Icon about Ada High School and Junior High sports teams (we already have varsity football covered!).

There's no pay involved, but we can provide press passes to get you into games free. If you are interested in more information, please contact [email protected].

The Icon also welcomes persons who take photos at games to send them to us.

The Ada Community Improvement Corp (CIC) meeting previously scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 20, has been cancelled due to scheduling issues. 

The next meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 17, at noon, in McIntosh Center.

 

The Hardin Co. Hootenannies are gearing up for the fair. Our last meeting was held at Megan Williams farm when we got our entry forms filled out to turn in to show at the fair. President Megan opened the meeting and asked Landyn Hijma to lead the American pledge and Sean Hurley to lead us in the 4-H pledge.

Parent Amy Williams is making plans for the fair booth and will let us know what we will need for it at our next meeting. Parent Ernie Davis announced if anyone wanted another t-shirt or an extra for a parent, they could still order them soon for the fair.

In business:

- Treasurer Bryan Marshall updated members on club finances. He also noted that dues are now due for the 2014-2015 Kiwanis year.

Blanchard Valley Health System's Corporate PR & Marketing Department has been named the “Best Health Care Communications Team” in the nation through the prestigious 2014 Ragan Health Care PR & Marketing Awards.
 
The department was announced as one of two finalists for the award in July, and was announced as the competition’s winner in a special edition of Health Care Communication News released August 13.
 

The Freed Center for the Performing Arts at Ohio Northern Unversity will have a 24-hour sale on tickets for the 2014-15 season on Monday, Aug. 25. The event will run from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

This is an opportunity to get great deals on amazing seats for the 2014-15 season. During the 24-hour sale, all tickets are $4 for headliners and $2 for in-house productions and 24-hour sale tickets are available by walk-in or phone only 419-772-1900.

The first program of the season is ONU Defying Gravity Production on Friday, Aug. 29, at Freed Center.

“A marvelous time!”

That’s how Ada Rotarian Bill Trudeau and daughter Keli, an Ada eighth grader, described their recent trip to Australia, where they attended the Rotary International Convention.

After the convention in Sydney, Bill and Keli journeyed on to Melbourne before flying home. Keli took advantage of the opportunity to visit four Australian universities, no doubt dreaming of adventures that might lie ahead.

The Trudeaus presented a program on the convention and sightseeing in Australia at the recent Ada Rotary meeting.
