There will be no primary in Ada or Liberty Township on Tuesday, May 5, according to Don Traxler, a member of the Hardin County board of elections.

The only elections in the county this spring are the Ridgemont School levy and the GOP contest for Kenton mayor.

Ada’s newest downtown business, Vape N Chill, offers electronic cigarettes, electronic hookahs, over 40 flavors of e-liquids, and several additional accessories, including e-hookah rentals.

Josh Culp of Ada, with business partner Shane Campbell of Lima, opened the store at 123 S. Main St., Ada, on March 6.

The shop offers an assortment of vapor accessories from starter kits to more advanced mechanical mods. Starter kits are priced as low at $9.95. The store, open to persons 18 and older, has free Wi Fi and offers college discounts.

Kids in grades 4th-12th grades are welcome to pop by the Ada Library, Wednesday, March 25th from 3:30-4:30p.m. for pancakes. The event will be held in the Meeting Room, where the kids can also study, or chat with their peers. As always, the program is FREE.

USV Kindergarten
Kindergarten registration for next year will be held at USV from 8:30 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, May 12. Call 419-757-3231 before May 4 to register your child for kindergarten screening.

The Hardin County Hootenannies 4-H Club will hold their first meeting on Sunday, March 29, at 4 p.m. in the Ag Credit meeting room in Kenton. This club is open to any youth in grades 3-12 who want to be members of 4-H in Hardin County  

We work hard to help youth who wish to take goats as a project to the fair (most of the line up for last year's Hardin County Grand Champ drive were members of our club).  

Laura Ferguson of Ada was appointed Hardin County Grange Deputy by Ohio State Grange Master, Robert White at the Pomona meeting at Painter Creek Grange last Saturday night. 

Laura is the third generation to hold this post with her great-grandparents, Nate and Ilo Stober, and her grandparents, John and Ruth Ferguson, all of Ada, also serving as deputies. 

Laura’s duties include overseeing youth and women’s activities in all of the Hardin County Granges, and acting as communicator between National and State Grange and the local Granges.

Gary Lee McCurdy, 71, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 9:58 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health Systems, Lima.

He was born on June 1, 1943, in Lima, Ohio, to Paul L. and Lois L. (Boyer) McCurdy and they preceded him in death. On May 6, 1977 he married Judith M. Schmenk and she survives in Ada.

Gary was a small business owner and a retired financial advisor. He was a 1961 graduate of Ada High School, and a 1965 graduate of Ohio Northern University. Gary was an accomplished pianist and an avid fisherman, as well as a Royal Arch Mason. Gary was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Ada.

Clayton Bailey, 51, died on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at 3:16 a.m. at the James Cancer Center, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born on June 17, 1963, in Lima, Ohio to Barbara (Lafferty) Morrison and she preceded him in death. He married Melissa Smiar on March 28, 2009, and she survives in Alger.

Surviving are two sons: Christopher (Barbie) Bailey and Chad (Toni) Bailey both of Alger; three grandchildren; two brothers: David Bailey of Cairo and Timothy Morrison of Alger; a sister, Angela Howard of Alger

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, with Lloyd Salyer officiating.

Lots of Ohio Northern University students stayed up all night Friday - and the all-nighter was for a great cause. ONU's 12-hour Relay for Life took center stage in the King Horn Center.

The campus Relay had raised over $10,000 toward its $17,000 goal before the evening began.

• Woody and Mickey greet people at the registration desk. Disney was this year's theme. The students raise a significant amount of money annually to help cure cancer.

The Village of Ada uses the services of Central Collection Agency (also known as CCA) Division of Taxation for filing and payment of Village Income taxes. As a service to its customers, CCA schedules on site taxpayer assistance.

This year, auditors from CCA will be available at the Ada Depot on Saturday, March 28th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Auditors will be able to assist taxpayers with their Village of Ada income tax form preparations.
