The Board of Trustees of the Ada Public Library would like to welcome Meri Skilliter as their newest member. 

Skilliter replaced Dr. Suzanne Darmer as Superintendent of Ada Exempted Village Schools, upon Darmer's retirement, and thus takes her spot on the Ada Public Library Board of Trustees.

The No. 6-ranked Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team is set to compete at the 2017 OAC championships hosted by Baldwin Wallace. The meet will feature all 10 teams from across the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Polar Bears have posted two top-3 finishes at the OAC championships in the last two seasons, including a second place finish in 2016.

The top eight competitors in each event will be scored. Field events will begin on Friday afternoon at 1:30 pm, as men's and women's pole vault, shot put, long jump, 3,000-meter run and distance medley relay's will all be final after Friday.

ONU senior Devon Allen (Lima/Senior), sophomore Ryan Bruns (Chickasaw/Marion Local) and senior Joey Hurless (Van Wert) were all named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in men's basketball for 2016-17 in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

Allen was named First Team All-OAC, Bruns was named to the Second Team and Hurless was an Honorable Mention All-Conference honoree.

Allen led the Polar Bears in scoring this season with a 15.4 ppg average and leads the OAC with 90 made 3-pointers and started 23 of 26 games at shooting guard

First-ever recorded jazz by Original Dixieland Jazz Band

100 years to the very day!

The  Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents the Centennial Dixieland Jass Band ensemble in a 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, performance.

The Centennial Dixieland Jass Band (CDJB) ensemble was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the very first recorded jazz by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band (ODJB) on Feb. 26, 1917, in New York City.

The ODJB was a collective of five musicians from New Orleans, La., led by the famous cornet player Nick LaRocca.

The Centennial band is led by Dr. David Kosmyna, ONU associate professor of music.

FROM ONU WEBSITE - It’s repeating the answer to an elderly patient’s question one more time. It’s reassuring a nervous child before giving a flu shot. It’s teaching a patient how to use his epi-pen to possibly save his life one day. Pharmacy is all of these things, but most of all, it’s personal.

To many, interactions such as these may seem perfectly ordinary, but for fifth-year ONU pharmacy student Heather Shaffer, they are the reasons she wants to be a pharmacist.

The Ada Kiwanis Club will mark its 93rd anniversary when it meets at noon onTuesday, Feb. 28, in McIntosh Center. Kiwanian Jon Umphress will present a program on the club's first year in 1924.

LIMA BATH - Polar Bears Ashton Dye and Holly Wilson combined to score 48 points and lead Hardin Northern past county rival Ada 60-49 in girls Div. IV first round sectional basketball action Tuesday evening at Bath.

Sophomore guard Dye scored 25 points and 5-11 senior Wilson contributed 23 markers as the duo nearly equaled the Ada output.

HN led by 11 at halftime, yet a 15-2 run by the Lady Bulldogs to start the third period put the outcome in doubt. But Northern reeled off 11 unanswered points to regain a 43-35 lead with 5:22 remaining to play. 

Sophomore Ryan Bruns(Chickasaw/Marion Local) scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team in a tough 72-71 loss to Baldwin Wallace in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

The third-seeded Polar Bears end their season with a 16-10 record, while the sixth-seeded Yellow Jackets improve to 14-12 and will host seventh-seeded Muskingum in the semifinals on Thursday.

Bruns had 29 and senior Aron Thress(Lancaster/Amanda Clearcreek) had 12 points to lead ONU.

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team remained at No. 5 in the D3Hoops.com poll, released Monday evening.

The Polar Bears completed their first ever undefeated regular season in school history with victories over Otterbein and Marietta last week.

ONU earned a double-bye in this week's OAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round at the ONU Sports Center on Thursday evening.

Northern (25-0 overall) is one of five unbeaten teams in the poll.

ONU awaits the first two rounds of the OAC Tournament to see who they host Thursday evening at the ONU Sports Center at 7:30 pm.

Freshman Cameron Marous(Brecksville) registered a hat trick in his first collegiate game, leading the Ohio Northern men's lacrosse team in a season-opening 15-7 loss at Kenyon on Tuesday.

Northern got off to a slow start and trailed 8-0 early in the second quarter, but played the final 43 minutes to a 7-7 draw.

Sophomore Noah St. Croix (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) had a goal and two assists and sophomore Anthony Pavone(Chagrin Falls/Kenston) had a goal and an assist for ONU.

Sophomores Nicholas Groves (Fishers, Ind./Chatard) and Max Weese (Columbus/Hilliard Darby) also scored goals for the Polar Bears.
