Find out at Discovery Center open house March 26

Are robins a sign of spring? Do opossums hang upside down? Does an elephant ever forget? Come test your nature knowledge at the Discovery Center during an Open House on Sunday, March 26, from 1-4 p.m. An interactive display will be available for you to see if what you know about nature is true or false.

All ages welcome to attend. This program and open house are free and no registration is required.

Fifth time since 2005 by Truven Health Analytics

Blanchard Valley Hospital (BVH) was recently named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics, part of the IBM Watson Health business. This is the fifth time BVH has been recognized with this honor. Previous years in which the organization received this distinction include 2005, 2011, 2015 and 2016.

Truven Health Analytics identified the 100 top U.S. hospitals based on their overall organizational performance for over 3000 hospitals. The study found that the top performing hospitals in the country were able to improve outcomes while reducing overall expense per patient.

ONU students volunteering in Mississippi with Habitat for Humanity

Spring break for college students means many things.

One thing it means for several ONU students this year was spending a week volunteering for Habitat for Humanity in Mississippi.

"We're thrilled to have volunteers from Ohio Northern University spend their spring break with us," says the Habitat hosts.

ONU students have volunteered with Habitat Mississippi - Capital Area for 20 years.

The 2017 Herb of the Year will be discussed at the Hardin County Herb Society when members meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at the Ada First United Methodist Church. Visitors are welcome.

Liz Vogt and Judy Mage of Ada will talk about Coriandrum Sativum, a parsley-like pungent herb with many uses.

Giny Lower of Lima will talk about her favorite herb, Ginger Root.

This year's officers are Mary Hofstetter of Lima, president; Evelyn Prater of Harrod, vice president; Judy MaGee of Ada, secretary; and Susie Closson of Ada, treasurer.

Senior Angela Tesny (Medina) and juniors Courtney Cramer (Arcadia) and Shannon Jack (Akron/St. Vincent St. Mary) each were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for the 2016-17 basketball season.

Tesny, a 2-time letterwinner and Mechanical Engineering major, earned the honor for the third time in her career.

Cramer, a Marketing major, earned the honor for the second consecutive season.

Jack, a Public Relations major, was named Academic All-OAC in her first season as a Polar Bear.

It’s tax season – need assistance with your Village Income Taxes?

The Village of Ada uses the services of Central Collection Agency (also known as CCA) Division of Taxation for filing and payment of village income taxes. As a service to its customers, CCA schedules on site taxpayer assistance.

This year, auditors from CCA will be available at the Ada Depot on Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Auditors will be able to assist taxpayers with their Village of Ada income tax form preparations.

The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble will perform at the Freed Center at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets, available at the door, are $25 for adults, $20 for faculty and staff, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students.

The next Medical Disposal Day will be Saturday, April 8, in the parking lot between RiteAid and COSI. Expired, unused prescriptions and over the counter drugs will be taken and safely disposed of between 9 a.m. and noon.

The program is sponsored by the Sheriff's Office, Hardin Memorial Hospital, ONU HealthWise, and the Solid Waste District
