Designation was earned through teamwork

The trauma center at Blanchard Valley Hospital has been verified as a Level III Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

This achievement recognizes the trauma center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients. The BVH Trauma Center is under the medical direction of Doug Yoder, MD.

Ken Collins took these two photos that proves there might be a canine Uber driver in Ada. Lilcensed, apparently.

(Dave Devier, Ph.D., attended ONU and lived in and around the community for 45 years. He taught at Northern for 15 years. Currently, he is President of Glen Oaks Community College in Centreville, Mich. While in the Ada area, he and his wife Patty collected Ada/ONU memorabilia. He will write an occasional column for the Ada Icon describing some of their "finds" that pertain to the town and gown.)

Goes well with coffee and the NY Times Sunday Book Review section

Looking for something different, carrot custard pie jumped out of the book of pie recipes and stared me in the face.

I was too curious to turn the page. So, knowing there was a very large carrot in the ‘frig, I sort of followed the recipe, and am happy to present the Icon Carrot Pie.

Think about recording them

By Monty Siekerman
Paul Logsdon (left) and Jimmy Wilson discussed digital history Friday at the business college.

About 50 students from Lima Senior High School learned the importance of recording history.

Paul served as director of Heterick Library for many years and now is archivist for ONU. He has helped with town and gown histories over the years.

Jimmy, a business prof, has instructed classes in how to research history and present and maintain the information for future generations.

He said memories, experiences, and impressions have value and should be recorded.

Musicians very successful at New Philadelphia

News flash from the Ada Music Boosters Facebook:

Another sweep and another five first place trophies for our already packed trophy case!

Five Ada groups participated in this past weekend's OIPA event in New Philadelphia, including flag line, rifle line, gold team winter guard, purple team winter guard and winds.

Congrats to all Ada performers and directors Mr. Lischak and Amy Webb. Perhaps the highlight of the day was the humorous award ceremony exit of one lovable t-rex (Jacob Bassitt) and monkey sidekick (Jacob Morgan).

This much we know: It's an ONU plate on a black Volkswagon spotted near the First United Methodist Church. We ask Icon viewers, "Who belongs to this plate?"

Amherst (Mass.) defeated ONU's nemesis Christopher Newport (Va.), 66-51.

Tufts (Mass.) defeated St. Thomas (Fla.) 60-57.

Amherst defeated Tufts, 52-29, for the Championship. This was the lowest scoring championship basketball game in NCAA Division III history.

Also, attendance for the final game was the lowest ever with the two Massachusetts teams in the final being a long way from Grand Rapids
