ADA - One out from defeat, the Ada baseball squad tied their season-opening game in the bottom of the seventh, but then fell 8-6 in extra innings to visiting Hardin Northern in their annual county rivalry contest Monday evening.

Bulldog Aaron Everhart drilled a clutch two-out, two-run double to deep right field in the bottom of the seventh to score Jaylin Burkhart and Zach Wilson, tying the contest.

The extra base hit knotted the score at 6-6, but Everhart was called out at third trying to stretch the hit into a triple just after Wilson crossed home with the tying run.

ADA - The Ada softball team scored two runs in their last at bat to nip county rival Hardin Northern 6-5 Monday evening in an exciting season-opener at the local park.

HN had plated two runs in the top of the seventh with the aid of a one-out throwing error to take their first lead of the game, 5-4.

But Bulldog Raina England opened the home seventh with a ringing double over the left fielder's head. Alexis Ennis then stroked a two-strike single to center field.

WAYNESFIELD - The Ada track and field team kicked off its 2017 campaign by competing at the Joe Rider Horn Tiger Relays in Waynesfield this past Saturday.

The Bulldog girls and boys teams each took sixth at the eight-team event.

Colonel Crawford won the boys title with 99 points, narrowly edging host Waynesfield-Goshen (97) and Wapakoneta (95). The Bulldog boys tallied 57 points to nip Allen East (56) for sixth.

Wapakoneta captured the girls crown with 102 points, followed by Colonel Crawford with 97. The Lady Bulldogs scored 58.5 points to finish just behind fifth-place AE (60).

GRANVILLE, Ohio (Feb 14, 2017) - Benjamin Bowers of Ada was one of 327 students named to Denison University's 2016 fall semester dean's list by Provost Kim Coplin. "Denison students thrive as they learn new modes of thought and are challenged to see the world in complex ways by faculty who share their own personal enthusiasm for research and scholarship," says Coplin. Students who achieve dean's list status have maintained a grade point average of 3.7 or better (out of 4.0) for the semester. Bowers is a graduate of Ada High School and a member of the Denison class of 2020.

Several Ada junior high music students participated in Solo and Ensemble Contest sponsored by OMEA. The event was held at Elida High School on Saturday. Here is the list of instrumental winners:

The College of Law will host its 23rd annual Public Interest Auction at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 31 in law building. The auction includes a range of goods and entertainment offerings.

Among items that have already been donated are golf outings, paintball tickets, gift certificates for area restaurants, gift packages, bowling and other entertainment packages, overnight hotel stays, Columbus Clippers and Cleveland Browns tickets and a Kindle Fire.

ADA — Senior Rebecca Carman (Bellefontaine) and sophomore Maddy Reed (Lucasville/Piketon) each posted second place finishes to lead the Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field teams at the Cedarville Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 22-3 on the season.

Northern finished fourth in the team standings with 61 points.

In the pole vault, Reed posted a second place finish with a leap of 11' 10.00".

Junior Kelly Wollenslegal and freshman Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) both tied for sixth in the pole vault with a vault of 10' 4.25".

Junior Matt Molinaro won the 800-meter run in a Div. I-dominated field to lead the Ohio Northern men's track and field team on the final day of the Raleigh Relays.

Molinaro won the race in 1:49.30 and claimed the event to lead ONU. 

The junior currently owns the fastest time in the country in the event by nearly three seconds.

Senior Lucas Shumate (Wapakoneta/Spencerville) also competed for ONU in the javelin. 

The senior posted a ninth place finish with a throw of 47.47 meters.

Emily Richards---Women's Outdoor Track

ADA — Ohio Northern junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes) has been named the Women's Outdoor Ohio Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Mar. 19-25.

Richards turned in another record setting performance as she competed in the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C.

On the first day of the invitational, Richards broke the school record, ran the fastest time nationally among Div. III athletes, and ran the tenth fastest time in Div. III history in the 1,500-meter run in 4:23.21.

Richards finished sixth overall in the Div. I-dominated field.
