Blanchard Valley Hospital (BVH) was recently honored with an “A” grade in the Spring 2018 Hospital Safety Score, by the Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization whose goal is to improve health care quality for consumers and purchasers.
This recognition is a reflection of how well hospitals protect patients from errors, accidents, injuries and infections. BVH was one of 750 hospitals awarded with an “A.”
The Hospital Safety Score uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm.

If someone can write an extremely popular book about a cat in a hat, maybe someone with imagination can write a book about chicks and goats.
Baby chicks and goats entertained kids at the Ada Public Library on Wednesday morning. Parents probably would not be serving broasted chicken for supper tonight, but goat milk may be ok.

These are young pet goats, which may grow up to be 60 pounds at most. The two-week-old goats were brought to the Ada Public Library by Tiffany and Nate Conn.
Ada High School sophomore Nora Dellifield broke her record and the school record for girls pole vault Saturday at the Hardin Northern Invitational. Last April she broke the school record two days in a row, clearing 8’7” and 9’0”. Last weekend she cleared 9’6”.

Let’s take a walk through the new addition and complete remodeling of the Ada Public Library to see what’s new prior to Saturday’s grand reopening. Ribbon cutting begins at 10:30 a.m. The celebration continues until 1:30 p.m. All are invited.
A large parking lot was constructed on the north side of the library, in an area once housing a large, brick Masonic building. Years ago the library purchased the Masonic building and lot. The area was rezoned educational nine years ago. Now it’s part and parcel of the library. The parking lot will be much more convenient and safer for patrons compared to the limited parking along Main Street.
The Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team jumped two spots to No. 9 in the fourth weekly United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) power rankings.
The Polar Bears are ranked in the top-10 for the third time this season. ONU received 77.34 points in the rankings, while George Fox (Ore.) is ranked No. 1.
The Polar Bears return to action this weekend as they host the 2018 Outdoor Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Kerscher Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
ADA — The Ada boys track team won a triangular meet at home in a light but regular rain Tuesday evening at War Memorial Stadium.
Ada scored 89 points to capture first in the boys team standings. Bluffton came in second with 70 points, while Ft. Jennings was a distant third with 10.
The Lady Bulldogs finished second to Bluffton in the girls meet, 94 points to 57. FJ brought up the rear again with 18.
Two Ohio Northern University colleagues who share a long friendship have come together to tell a meaningful history.
Adriane Thompson-Bradshaw, vice president for student affairs, and Margot Cullen, associate professor of English, co-authored a chapter for a new book. The chapter, “Gospel Music: Cultural Artifact or Cross-Cultural Opportunity?” appears in “Exploring, Experiencing, and Envisioning Integration in US Arts Education.”
OBERLIN — A rainy afternoon in Northeast Ohio forced the Ohio Northern women's tennis team indoors, where host Oberlin posted an 8-1 victory at Heisman Field House on Tuesday.
The Polar Bears fall to 18-5 overall, while the No. 11 regionally ranked Yeowomen improve to 14-8.
Senoir Lynn Kelly (Mason) led Ohio Northern with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2 singles.
The final Parkers Presents Jazz Series will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday in Presser Hall. The program is free and open to the public. Preceding the concert there will be an open jam session at El Campo Restaurant at 5 p.m. with ONU jazz students and guest performers.
In addition to Ray and Gene Parker, guest performers include trombonist and composer Tom Richards from Toronto, Ontario; guitarist Grant Gordy from New York City; and Michael Reed on drums from Toledo.
Work has started on the sewer/road project on the southeast end of town. Beaverdam Contracting is the general contractor for phase 1 which includes Orders St. and Willeke Ave from Orders to Ackerman. Completion date is August. The remainder of Willeke is phase 2. Funding has not been received yet, but it is hoped that phase 2 can be completed in 2019. (Monty Siekerman photo)
