The Ada community will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, with a 2 p.m., abbreviated ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery, according to Win Hauenstein of the Ada VFW.
This annual observance is co-sponsored by the Foss-Agin-Meyer Post 185 of the American Legion and Ream-McElroy Post 9381 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
This year’s ceremony will be abbreviated from previous years. It will include presenting of the colors and laying of wreaths at the memorial.
In cooperation with Ada schools, the Ada Icon will post each of the Ada High School class of 2020 seniors in the spotlight. Ella Poling is today's senior in the spotlight.
Lt. Governor Husted announced several new sector opening dates in Ohio:
Beginning Tuesday, May 26, miniature golf, batting cages, and bowling alleys may resume operations if they can meet required safety protocols.
Beginning Tuesday, May 26, skills training for all sports, including contact sports, may resume if required safety protocols can be met. Tournaments, games, and competitions for contact sports are still prohibited.
Rhodes State College is pleased to announce the 2020 Spring Semester Dean's Lists for full-time, One Night a Week (ONAW) and part-time students.
FULL-TIME STUDENTS
To be eligible for this full-time Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.5 grade point average or higher.

Ada High School 2020 graduates never thought they would fly this high.
While this year’s seniors have not experienced many of the year-end events celebrated by previous graduating classes they do have this first: Photos of each graduate is on a separate Main Street banner for the all world to see.
The banners are thanks to many donations from the community, driven by an effort from parents of the grads.
Several Ohio Northern University faculty and students have received recognition this spring. Here is a summary of awards and new notes.
Students recognized by Ohio Council of Criminal Justice Education
Two students were recognized for excellence from the Ohio Council of Criminal Justice Education in 2020. Senior criminal justice student Katie Klamut earned the OCCJE Undergraduate Research Paper of the Year award for “Connecting Through the Wire: The Relationship Between Class, Race, Gender, and Police Brutality” Law student Genc Nimoni earned the OCCJE Graduate Research Paper of the Year for “Rule of Law on State-building Societies - Republic of Kosovo.”
Kenton Hardin Health Department is reporting three new cases with two of them being hospitalized. This will bring our total confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 34.
May 26 skills training activities for contact sports can begin. This does not mean tournaments, scrimmages, and games are to commence at this time, but skills training can begin for athlete’s to work on the skills needed for those contact sports. There is guidance on how to conduct the skills training activities at the www.coronavirus.ohio.gov website.

We had a very successful blood drive on Monday despite the rain. Almost everyone who was on the schedule came in and gave their donation and the majority of those people signed up for our July 20th blood drive.
The Red Cross informed me that those donations helped save 126 lives. Thank you all.
And a very special Tthank you to the Ada VFW for hosting it.
The Red Cross personnel deserve a huge thank you. Setting up and tearing down for a blood drive is a tremendous amount of work. Kudos to all of those people...dedicated and hard working.
Susan D. Mowery, 62, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at 1:10 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born Dec. 6, 1957, in Lima, Ohio, to the late Richard Allen and Patricia (Phillips) Allen. On June 21, 2014, Susan married David Mowery and he survives in Alger.
