Ada High School head coach Vince Halliday enters year three of rebuilding the Bulldog boys basketball program with little returning experience but plenty of athleticism, youth and hope for the future in the fold.
Nine seniors and all five starters graduated from a 10-14 team that went 0-8 in Northwest Conference play last year.
Two little-used lettermen return to combine with several promising but young newcomers this winter. Ada lost 99 percent of its scoring to graduation, yet could surprise people with its athletic ability.
"Obviously, we are very young and inexperienced," admitted Halliday. "We will probably start two freshmen and two sophomores. But I like the talent.
Annual Merry on Main festivities take place this Saturday, December 2, on Main Street in downtown Ada. A variety of activities will take place from 11:00 am.-2:00 p.m.

Richard “Riley” Woofter, age 82, of Ada, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 9:15 a.m. at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
He was born on March 5, 1941 in Philippi, West Virginia to the late James and Dorothy (Riley) Woofter. On February 11, 1963 Riley married Genevieve Patton. He was preceded in death by his wife and by his son, Michael Woofter.
On Monday, Dec. 4 at 5:00 p.m., the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District will offer a Winter Wellness Club: Jogging With Johnny at Ottawa Metro Park-Wyandot Shelter Parking Area, 2632 Ada Rd., Lima.
St. Mark Lutheran Church--located at the corner of Lincoln and Johnson in Ada--will be again sponsoring it's community meal on Wednesday, November 29, from 5 to 6:30, or until they run out. The meal is free and open to the public.
Amber L. Rex, age 40, of Lima, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
She was the daughter of Carole and Doug Stimmel of Harrod. On April 9, 2005 Amber married Nathan A. Rex and he survives in Lima. Also surviving are her three children: Audrey, Cameron and Carson; a brother, Scott Stimmel; a sister, Amanda (Steve Dawson) Morris; two half-brothers: Landon Tomcho and Miley Tomcho; father and mother-in-law: Mark and Cheryl Rex; a brother and sister-in-law: Logan and Megan Rex; sister-in-law, Kristin Rex; maternal grandmother, Martha Tarlteton; and four nieces and nephews: Liam, Lyla, Alexis and Riley.

HARDIN COUNTY__ With the help of 15 volunteer rainfall reporters, the Hardin County Extension office has collected unofficial township rainfall data for the past 31 consecutive years. The 2023 growing season began with some early planting in April; however wet soil prevented much field work from occurring until late in May. Frequent rains combined with cool temperatures in early May slowed evaporation and kept field conditions wet. Farmers were able to finish planting crops in June that they didn’t get planted in May. June continued with cooler temperatures and dry weather which slowed early season growth.
Low amounts of rainfall across parts of the county occurred in July after a dry month in June. Rains were spread out throughout the month of July, which resulted in lower disease pressure in crops. Both corn and soybean crops grew slowly until the rains started in early July. August brought more needed rain for county crops after a dry start to the growing season. Farmers were counting on rain to complete ear fill and to produce soybean pods.
