Madeline J. “Maggie” Lenhart, age 103, of Ada, Ohio passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Lost Creek Care Center, Lima.
She was born on July 6, 1920 in Mansfield, Ohio to Elza R. and Marjorie A. (McBride) Dodge who preceded her in death. On October 13, 1948 she married Eugene A. “Gene” Lenhart and he died on September 5, 1978.
ADA__The Ada High School girls basketball team methodically defeated spunky Hardin County foe Ridgemont 56-36 in a non-conference contest Monday evening, January 22.
The Bulldogs authored three key runs and outscored the scrappy Gopher gals 16-7 in the final period to put the game out of reach.
At the January 16 meeting of the Ada Council, the first reading of Ordinance 32-2024 was unanimously approved, preparing the Village to “Prohibit Adult Use Cannabis Operators and Medical Marijuana Cultivators, Processors, and Retail Dispensaries within the Village of Ada.”
The ordinance has been proposed for the short term, until—as Mayor David Retterer put it–”the State gets its ducks in a row.” Ohio voters approved Issue 2 in November 2023, legalizing recreational use of marijuana. However, the sale of marijuana has not yet been addressed.
Village legal counsel Jane Napier noted that the ordinance can be modified while going through second and third readings. She stressed that village can’t enact an ordinance retroactively and that more will be known in the coming weeks. She will prepare alternative language for the ordinance by the next council meeting, February 6.
The Ada Police Department is among Ohio law enforcement agencies recently awarded grant funding to help cover costs associated with body-worn cameras. The Ada department received $26,057.20, which partially covers the expense of updating cameras, software and the associated 5-year service contract.
Velma M. Scott, age 92, of Alger, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.
She was born on April 18, 1931, in Hardin County, Ohio to the late Berlie and Betty (Prater) Dotson. Velma married Robert Scott who preceded her in death on September 10, 2000.
The Ada Exempted Village Schools have announced a Special Board Of Education Meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23 for a confidential executive session. The purpose is to consider employment.
The board's February meeting has been changed due to scheduling conflicts. The regular meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 22.
HARDIN COUNTY__The 2024 Conservation Tillage Club breakfast program series will continue Thursday, January 25 at the Plaza Inn Restaurant in Mt. Victory. The session will start at 7:30 a.m. with a complimentary buffet breakfast followed by a grain marketing outlook program at 8:00 a.m. Other sessions will be held on February 8 and 22.
The January 25 program will feature Kendra Dauer, Risk Management Consultant with StoneX in Bowling Green who will present a program on the 2024 Grain Marketing Outlook. Dauer will discuss the world market situation for corn, soybean, and wheat including world events, demand, supply, planting intentions, and other factors that might influence the grain markets in 2024. Other local information that might affect grain markets here in Ohio will be a topic of discussion as well.
