 Betty Hauenstein, age 93 died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 7:24 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, Ohio.

            She was born on March 24, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA to Samuel and Marie Anna (Bastardi) Meringleo who preceded her in death.  On March 25, 1944 she married C. Wayne Hauenstein and he died on April 15, 1987. 

            Betty retired from Ohio Northern University where she worked in the maintenance department.  She was a member of the Ada VFW Post #9381 Women’s Auxiliary.  Betty enjoyed Polka dancing.  She was a member of the Senior Citizens Center of Bluffton.

Historic event 50 years ago is subject of Jan. 18 commemoration

Those who were at the historic event will share their memories of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s talk at Ohio Northern University during a panel discussion at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18 in the Freed Center. The discussion will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s talk at ONU’s Taft Gymnasium on Jan. 11, 1968.
 
The panel discussion, which kicks off a series of events to honor the occasion, is free and open to the public. It will culminate with the unveiling of a statue of Dr. King on April 17 outside of Taft Hall.
 

Her teams dominated NW Ohio for 10 seasons

Sharon Kay Ansley Pitts, 77, who led Ada High School girls' on a state basketball championship, died Jan. 4, 2018.

She was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, on May 18, 1940, to the late Carl and Vera (Henkle) Ansley and is preceded in death by her brother. Dick Ansley.

She is survived by a sister Sue Nickerson, and brothers, Jerry Ansley, Mike Hurley, and Doug Hurley.

ADA - Visiting LCC outscored Ada 21-11 in the fourth quarter to down the Lady Bulldogs 51-39 in a hard-fought non-conference girls basketball contest Thursday evening.

 

The purple and gold drop to 2-8 with the defeat, while the Thunderbirds improved to 1-12 after their first win.

 

LCC finished the game on an 18-6 run after breaking the final tie of 33-33 on a Rosie Williams three-point play with just under five minutes remaining.
