ONU senior Emily Richards (Delaware/Hayes) finished 10th of 332 runners on Saturday afternoon to lead the Polar Bears at the Principia (Ill.) Cowbell Classic Pre-Nationals meet.

The Polar Bears (63-26 overall) finished 17th of 36 teams at the event.

Head coach Jason Maus improved his overall record at Ohio Northern to 749-342 and surpassed former head coach Brian Cole to become to winningest women's head cross country coach in school history.

Maglott Hall will sponsor a Dolly Dash 5k Fun Run/Relay at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.  The run will begin at the Green Monster pavilion west of Fraternity Circle. All are welcome to participate.

The cost to participate is $5 for individuals or $10 for a relay team of three.

The fundraiser will support the Dolly Pardon Imagination Library in Kenton. 
Each mile will have a Dolly-themed obstacle to complete. Prizes will be awarded for the best Dolly Pardon costume.

> The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team kicked off its 2017-18 campaign on Saturday afternoon as it competed in the annual Kenyon Relays and Denison Diving Meet. The Polar Bears finished third overall of eight in the team standings.

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team played well in a difficult environment, but dropped a 2-1 overtime decisison at No. 10-ranked John Carroll on Saturday night at Don Shula Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 9-5-1 overall and are 2-3-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks improve to 12-1-1, 4-1-0.

JCU scored just 2:30 into overtime to post the match-winner.

ASHLAND - The Ada girls soccer team lost at Ashland Crestview 9-1 in Div. III sectional first round play Saturday evening to be eliminated from the tournament.

 

The Lady Bulldogs were seeded 12th in the 13-team district.

 

The loss dropped the Lady Bulldog record to 5-11. Ashland Crestview, the sixth seed, will play at second-seeded Liberty-Benton Oct. 18 in second round action.

 

The Cougars scored very early in the game and raced to a 6-0 lead by halftime. AC extended the margin to 9-0 before Ada scored its goal.

VAN WERT - Ada sophomore Abbie James finished 12th in the Northwest Conference cross country championship meet at the Van Wert Reservoir Saturday morning.

 

James covered the 3.1-mile course in 21:46 to post the top Ada girls finish among the 57-runner field.

 

The Lady Bulldog squad finished fifth at the meet while Columbus Grove won the girls team crown handily over second-place Lincolnview.

 

Sophomore Reece Evans posted the best Bulldog boys finish, coming in 21st out of 69 runners in a time of 19:13.

 

Ada only had three boys race, two less than the requisite five to field a team score.
